Scott Gibbs
I'm currently building a 2005 onza T-rex (its what I've got on my budget so no "buy a lighter frame" comments please!) I'd like to shed a bit of weight from it as it's a bit of a heavy lump! So far I've cut the gear cable tabs off and cut a hole on the head tube and stripped the paint. Is there anything else I could do to shed some grams or is it now down to buying lighter parts?
*gentlydoesit
Sand blast it Hole in the bb maybe? They use mech don't they? Do away with it if it does and use a spoke Edited May 19, 2014 by *gentlydoesit

Scott Gibbs
Wow! Not sure about drilling holes in the top tube though.

N.Wood
Wouldn't bother doing anything to the frame. Some lighter rims / tyres / tubes and then forks / bars / stem / front brake will make waaay more difference.

Scott Gibbs
I was thinking single wall rims, and kenda small block 8 tyres which are pretty light. I've already got trialtech forged stem and high rise bars which are quite light.
Jake.
What does your bike weigh atm
Scott Gibbs
The frame is 2kg it's not built yet in still collecting parts atm.
Jake.
A "light" frame weighs around 1.6kg. I wouldn't worry too much, just build a spec around your riding style.
dngr2self
Continental race race kings are better than small blocks up front in my opinion.
HippY
http://www.trials-forum.co.uk/topic/156126-ashton-2010/ I love those discs Even if they would not be as good as the RT66, i would get them
Scott Gibbs
What's a good light rear tyre? Also are Ti bottom brackets worth the extra cash over standard ones?
Blake
So you're considering splashing out on a ti bb before getting a lighter frame...
Scott Gibbs
Not yet probably wait until I do get something lighter just wanted to know if there is a real benefit.

Cant say if its worth the extra money, but I much prefer a light bike
Scott Gibbs
I'll get one with my next frame! Gotta build this one first.
Scott Gibbs
So it's down to component choice now to keep the weight down?
Otacon
Don't use single wall rims on the rear for the love of god
ogre
i wouldn't say the ti bb is essential, the best (read nerdiest) thing to do is compare the cost to the potential saving; pick the cheapest heaviest, and work out the value of the weight saving, it should highlight the best areas to shave weight effectively. your priorities should be in having light wheels/tyres, as they will dictate the feel of the bike the most... ogre
Don't use single wall rims on the rear for the love of god times have changed danny, it's ok to run a singlewall rim on the rear. they're fine unless your neil watson or damon tunnicliffe, or TR scott or whoever
