JAF Bikes Bash Ring Remix

Thanks everyone for all the input. I've had a chance to do some measurements of my own now that I got a set of new cranks. From that I wouldn't go over 3.5mm maybe 4mm if need be. I don't understand why there are so many 5mm rings out there. I mean almost half the rings in some shops are 5mm. I wouldn't want to leave so little thread left over now that I've seen with my own eyes.

So next I'll be porting all the designs to solid edge and doing some virtual stress tests. Any suggestions on how I could economically go about getting CNC one offs done would be much appreciated.

Send me a copy of the design as a PDF, or what ever format can be imported to a cnc machine. I'll ask the bloke in the tool room at work if he can make a prototype for you

Not as simple as that.

Depends on the controller the machine has. His cad package might no out put the right code.

Also he wont have the parameters for the m/c. Ide warn your guy to expect a bump haha

I've no idea, that was the first thing that came to mind. Only trying to help lol

haha, someone will still need to come up with the toolpaths for the CNC machine and tell it what tools it needs to use, as well as set up datums etc.

The only thing I can pass on is a DFX file. Or other universal 3D format. I can't generate CNC code with my software...

I can take the dxf and give you a basic cnc code. Could even supply you with a blank out of mild / stainless steel if you wish.

Process would be laser cut

I'd really like a prototype in 7075 aluminum. Would the laser cutting do the bevels as well?

No. All it would process is the flat design. No chamfers/bevels. If you went I to manufacture it would need a secondary process.

Alternatively you could get it completely cnc'd. But doing a 1 off would be stupidly expensive as at a minimum you would need 2 setups.

Sadly at work we dont play wi alloy. Just structural steels and 304 / 316 stainless grades.
