niconj
Sorry for the new topic but I'm still undecided as to try out the Trialzone and "dump" my Saint or not. Has anyone used the Hopes with Shimano rotors? I'm currently using a RT66 and it performs well, I just don't know whether the contact area pad/rotor is too small for Hope pads. I wouldn't like to spend 30 bucks on a new rotor having a hardly used rotor on my bike. Thanks... Edited May 8, 2014 by niconj
HippY
I would do it other way Shimano tends to make good quality products, so does RT66 I would pop a pair trialzone one, and if there is a problem of the braking thanks to the disc, then change it. I was just wondering as the pad area of the Hopes seems higher than the Saints one.
HippY
I had an echo caliper, that uses Hope pads, and have RT66 I try to check it tomorrow for you

AdamR28
Yep, Hope pads are much deeper. Use a Hope rotor with Hope brakes, and the Mono Trial rather than the Trial Zone.
niconj
Is it as easy to shorten the hose as with a Shimano brake. Meaning, do I need Dot for the first time?
AdamR28
Yep, no fluid or re-bleeding needed with the right technique. Video on Hope website.
Filo
As Adam said, if you get hope rotors, use the older style ones. The newer rotors are garbage.
niconj
I just don't know. I have a Saint that performs well....
AdamR28
Then leave it on.
AndrewEH1
I swore by Hope brakes for trials and trails. But since switching to Shimano they, sadly, are much better!

That's what I wanted to hear. I guess I'm gonna stick with my Saints. I don't wanna spend 160GPB just for the looks and if it doesn't make a difference or if they are even worse... Thanks so much. I guess I'm gonna spend that money on some new 5/10 shoes as mine are rather worn...
AdamR28
To add some balance - all the Saint's I've tried haven't been as good as mine and Stan's Trial Zones with Mono Trial rotors and Jitsie pads. Plus you can get spares for the Hopes and they are lighter. Everyone's got a different opinion.
niconj
Probably because you don't use Trickstuff pads over there. With the normal resin pads the Saints don't perform nearly as good as with the Trickstuff ones.
AdamR28
I've actually just tried a set of those in my Trial Zones (they are a catalogue pad). If they are better than the standard Saint pads then the Saint pads must be shit... the Jitsies are miles better. It's like with rim brakes, it's the pads that make all the difference.Guess this whole thread was pointless then

LEON
Unlike most people, I found my standard Saint sintered pads pretty crap, I've got 3 M810 Saint brakes, all felt pretty average with standard pads, and much better with aftermarket ones. Dman
My hope trialzones are amazing with standard pads and mono rotors, don't see how you could need more braking power, imo they look better than saints and I like the Tech 3 levers better aswell. AdamR28
You always need more power Takes some getting used to though, both Stan and I struggled to not go over the bars after fitting Jitsie pads, cos we were so used to how the normal pads worked! Dman
I will try the Jitsies next.
Sam Nichols
Damn you! Now I'm considering the Hopes again.... I think you should do us all favour and just go brakeless. You're like a woman for christs sake. In other news, definitely give the Jitsies a go, Dman. You won't regret it. They're insane.
