isitafox
Starting to look around for a set of forks for my Specialized but have a complete lack of modern MTB knowledge so could anyone recommend something? Going to be running 4-5" on the rear so I assume I want something similar up front, heard Reba's would be a good choice? Not going to be doing any majorly harsh downhills so don't need to be top end I just don't want something super crappy and heavyweight! I can probably stretch to £200 at the most currently so it will probably be an eBay job, something middle of the road will be fine though any features like lockout would be an obvious bonus! TOMTRIALS123
What axle are you running with your front wheel? If you have a 15QR through Axle, you cant go wrong with Foxs: http://www.pinkbike.com/buysell/1562854/ Rebas are great also but its hard to find a good pair that aren't worn out. My neighbour has a rare version with a carbon top crown and they have never gone wrong with him What is your price range? Here is a standard 9mm QR version of the Foxs: http://www.pinkbike.com/buysell/1543165/ Here are some good Rebas: http://www.pinkbike.com/buysell/1522017/ More Rebas: http://www.pinkbike.com/buysell/1495090/ - (they have the remote lockout) More Foxs: http://www.pinkbike.com/buysell/1548392/ These all seem good but go and look at them before buying if I were you. forteh
I just got my rebas off Paul Oliver and they're awesome, set them up right and they're super plush, can be locked out to help with some climbs and lightweight to boot. My only issue with them is that they're only 4.5" travel on my 5.5" frame, ideally I should have some 5" forks minimum but they work ok if you increase the preload to make them run higher in the travel.
isitafox
I've got a Pro 2 so the world is my oyster regarding axle size, sounds like Reba's are the way to go then as I'm happy to go upto £200 for a pair so hopefully will find some in good nick! forteh
To be honest Paul sold me the forks for far less than their market value, that was his decision though not mine - I just got a monster of a deal! About 150 quid seems to be the going rate for them dependant on spec and age, mine are 2007 dual air u-turn teams with remote lockout. From what I've read the dual airs are better forks because you can fine tune the negative chamber to adjust the plushness. The motion control damper is ridiculously simple once you figure out how it works. I'm still in two minds wether to ditch the remote lockout or not, without it you can set the compression damper to work as a slow speed circuit by adjusting the floodgate control; with the remote lockout it is either locked or fully open. If you get some non lockout rebas then I might consider a try out swap of the dampers if you fancy it?
isitafox
Will see what comes up! I've only used lockout once before on a Rockhopper I bought in 2007 (I think) but that never went off road so I'm none the wiser really.
forteh
The motion control damper when locked out allows about 20mm of travel before going solid, this aids with traction on technical climbs and takes out small bumps.
Luke Rainbird
In case you weren't already sold, I'll vouch for the Rebas too. Other forks about for similar money but you can't go far wrong with them. Have had them on a couple of bikes and can't fault them for a low-midrange fork
dezmtber
Reba or revelations would suit the job. You can always internaly travel adjust longer revelations down to the travel you need. i would prefer you go for revelations they will be stiffer and you can always up the travel later if you get a longer travel frame. isitafox
Been offered these for £95 posted, just been fully serviced and had the lowers stripped, repainted and lacquered with new graphics. I'm just waiting to hear what year they are.
isitafox
EDIT: After I spoke to the guy last night to say I needed to confirm the steerer would fit but I'd pretty much be paying this morning he sold them someone else.
bing
Knobhead. No need for that is there
Matthew62
Knobhead. No need for that is there If someones got money and willing to pay then and there, they get the goods….. if you waited around for all the people that said "ah yeah i'll pay you in a couple of days" you'd never sell anything. Shopkeepers don't refuse sales because someone was browsing earlier that day and looked like they might make a purchase.
isitafox
That's the thing, I'd basically said I'd take it then he's emailed and said and I quote "have had some other interest and will let you know if they progress"

What bike is this for anyway?
