SCOTTY___
Afternoon all. I have recently purchased some TNN adm refils. Installed as per the Instructions. Fresh grind using a 2.5mm metal cutting disc. Fresh bleed on the brake. Echo TR 24" Rear rim Rockman Radix frame - No booster. Now they just do not work. No honk, no bite or hold forward or rear. Next step is to clean the rim and pads with white spirits to see if anything has got on there (cant see how personally). Any help turning these pads on? The grind feels sharp/rough. Thanks in advance,
HippY
Does the brake itself work? Like pistons move, clamps tight...
ogre
keep your tyre on for the grind? was it a new disc?
SCOTTY___
New disc. Tyre on. Brake is set up square & all tight
ogre
how much use you given it. i went back to magura, took 3-4 rides before the pads felt confidence inspiring....
SCOTTY___
They've worn down 2/3mm already with bedding in on the street. No serious rides. Expected them to work by now if im being honest
Dazza1414
is it a magura brake?
bing
Mine took at least 4 good rides before they started working properly, FYI that was on a trialtech sl rim
SCOTTY___
is it a magura brake? Yeh, 2011 vversion thats always worked perfectly
Dazza1414
Yeh, 2011 vversion thats always worked perfectly I had an echo brake a few years ago and the pistons only came out a certain amount, so on some rims it wasn't enough to fully clamp the rim. SCOTTY___
The pads are set up square to the rim only 2mm away from the rim. The TPA is hardly on either.
Neon-trials
Adms a crap mate change to cousts job done x
Greetings
Very odd. I'd say the rim is contaminated or the pads are dirty.Try re-grinding the rim, then rub it lightly with P240 paper or a wire brush, also rub the pads down ever so slightly using ~P400 paper. Make sure that the master cylinder isn't bottoming out although by the sound of things it isn't. I very recently went over from LGM's to ADM's and the brake performed poorly at first too but it has since become very powerful. Before this happened though I did end up grinding the rim again despite already having a fresh grind and did some work on the pad surface. Adms a crap mate change to cousts job done x And the prize for most useless post goes to....
FamilyBiker
once your grind starts to flatten down, cousts arent that good really, they always needed a fresh grind when i had them.
jack dickinson
once your grind starts to flatten down, cousts arent that good really, they always needed a fresh grind when i had them. cousts works absolutely shit for me (on an echo tr rim, magura brake) Adms a crap mate change to cousts job done x from what ive heard adms are shit. if it were me i would get some heatsink yellows best pads by far for me, i strongly recomend them

bing
I've had all of the above. Cousts were best performing, but it massively depends on the rim. I had cousts and adms on the same rim, adms did perform slightly better on it. On my old tryall rim, cousts were boss
AdamR28
My guess would be too harsh a grind, makes most pads work rubbish, wear down quickly and give the other characteristics you mentioned. You often get this witha brand new disc. Don't use white spirit, it'll pretty much leave oil on your rim! If you can, find a really old knackered cutting disc and just give the rim a tickle, should work much better.
*gentlydoesit
To be honest I thought they'd be better than they are, but they still work well for me. Seconded on not using white spirit, its oil based and doesn't evaporate fully. Meths maybe?
dann2707
I put a fresh pair on the other day and they are working incredibly well on my Echo rim :/ Maybe you've got a bad batch?
niconj
if it were me i would get some heatsink yellows best pads by far for me, i strongly recomend them Went from bedded in Heatsinks to Trialtech Sport* w/o regrinding the rim. The latter outperformed the Heatsinks even w/o bedding in. *Both glued into TNN backings Edited May 4, 2014 by niconj

dann2707
Since Adam has already provided the solution... Who's to say it's definitely going to solve his problem? Think outside the box you berk. What clamps are you using Craig?
