Jake.
Hopefully not all of us on here have turned into high bb weight weenies so I'd like to ask, anyone got tricks to making parts stronger? Was thinking of packing sand into my bars, or filling them with concrete.
dann2707
How many bars have you snapped in your riding lifetime?
Jake.
That's not the point, I also want to make the bike heavier. May see if I can get solid steel pedals
Little Yoshi
Heavier? Go to steel, not concrete.
*gentlydoesit
Hollow is often stronger than solid in most materials. Mind if I ask what the extra weight is for? There are some nice heavy pedals, early burgtec's are heavy and pretty indestructible. You could inject resin into your frame, but it'll be a messy and expensive exercise Edited April 30, 2014 by *gentlydoesit
Jake.
Heavier? Go to steel, not concrete. Agreed, where can i get molten steel to pour into my bars? sarcasm in case some of you cant tell. Hollow is often stronger solid in most materials. Mind if I ask what the extra weight is for? There are some nice heavy pedals, early burgtec's are heavy and pretty indestructible. You could inject resin into your frame, but it'll be a messy and expensive exercise I've heard that too. Extra weight = rely on technique more. Whenever I go back to lighter components then hopefully my technique will have improved, and my longevity may even improve a bit too with suddenly losing 2kg or whatnot on the bike. Haha scrap that, good idea though

HippY
why dont you call Marino, to make a frame out of like 5 cm thick steel tubing? you could have a heavy bike with a geo you would like
zetecmk2
bolt it to the floor?...just a thought
isitafox
HippY has got a point, why not get an obscenely reinforced Marino made up with some of his steel forks?
Luke Rainbird
It'd be easy enough to build a heavier bike by changing a few parts around. Don't need ridiculous frame tubing and so on. Throw on heavy tyres and rims with DH tubes and you'll already be adding plenty enough to take some of the fun out of things.
FamilyBiker
i think with the new frames and forks its such a demand for them, marino seems to not having any mild steel tubing left.noone ordered mild steel frames for about a year now. just get real street parts,tech9 forks, crmo bars,dh rims. or another attempt on gaining weight:get some training weights, those which you strap onto wrists and ankles Edited May 1, 2014 by FamilyBiker
Ross McArthur
I dont think Marino has a massive amount of tube sizes but maybe adding extra tubes a using a frame design which also reinforces it could be a good idea? Something like a triple seat tube set up and/or an extra tube between the top tube and down tube, a bit like the Inpulse?
isitafox
Just thought, get some Zoot forks on the front. Problem solved!
zetecmk2
filling tyres with water jake the tube must be totally immersed with the valve removed in the bath to avoid sloshing!!
Ross McArthur
Or Curtis forks if you can find some. Its what Danny Mac used to use before Inspireds came out because he would snap everything else doing 500 hooks every night.
