Laurence--Trials
Okay so I was POSSIBLY caught doing somewhere around the 79-82 ish mark on Sunday evening on a duel carriage way, by a police gun. The policeman was on a bridge say 10M up now with the height am I right in saying the gun would be less accurate?
isitafox
Nope, but make sure you get proof of when the gun was last calibrated as too long and you could argue the reading wasn't accurate to a degree. That's what my old bosses son was advised, when he was caught speeding, by a copper and he blagged it.
Laurence--Trials
Yeah was going to do that, should I ask for the police officers training certificates too?
isitafox
Do they need one? I still reckon you'll be on for a ban though!
CurtisRider
Or just admit you were speeding if anything does come about it? We all do it I know but we all know the speed limits too and chose to break them.
Laurence--Trials
No not doing that, I've already got 3 points and speed awareness course from a year ago
Mark W
Not a ban at that speed - they released new guidelines a couple of years ago that allow you 10% + 6mph above the limit without getting points on your license as long as you go on a speed awareness course. EDIT: Just saw that post above mine - good luck
CurtisRider
Yeah looks like you might be a bit f**ked then
Laurence--Trials
Are you 100%sure it's 10% plus 6 MPH? because that'd make 83mph which means I'm pretty sure I'd be okay.
Mark W
My bad, it's +9mph now according to this. From a quick Google, if you have actually been caught it seems the points you avoided with the previous speed awareness course would be added to your license because you were caught within 2 years of doing the course. dann2707
Clearly the speed awareness course didn't work then!

Mark W
"OK" in the sense you'd potentially be paying out for another speed awareness course and potentially be getting an additional 3 points on your license. ProTip: Stop getting caught speeding
dann2707
Says you in your 200bhp tractor? I very very very rarely speed. Find it way more fun getting up to speed in the shortest amount of time however.

dngr2self
I know this doesn't really help but speed awareness courses are a bit of a cop out in my opinion. Surely someone shouldn't even have a license if they're not aware of the dangers of speeding.
Mark W
They're pretty handy for the government though. They stopped government funding for speed cameras, but then allowed 'speed camera partnerships' to make money by running those courses (£21m of income in the 2011-12 tax year) which then pays for more speed cameras. The people who don't want to pay for the courses pay the fine instead, meaning the treasury still have an option to make more money, plus with there being more speed cameras around that are actually operational the chances of getting caught increase. Jolfa
Woo I should be okay then!! No You don't get to to the course every time you're caught, and if you read Mark's post you would have seen that you'll likely get double points because you got caught again... Just accept you were speeding, I made the mistake of arguing my first lot of points (on good grounds I hasten to add) and ended up with double fine + the points. Laurence--Trials
No I mean if They don't take action until 86MPH I should be okay because I was around the 79-82 mark I think

Mark has clearly then said it's 79mph.
Luke Rainbird
Regardless of the normal value they use, you were clearly over the limit and as such they have every right to give you shit for it. No amount of answers on here are going to give a definitive answer unfortunately.
N.Wood
Was your 79 - 82mph figure off a sat nav or your speedo? 79 on a speedo is probably more like 75ish actual speed.
LiamWood!
Seriously if you already have 3 points and have attended a speed seminar but your still getting caught then more fool you. I bet your still in your first 2 years of driving too.
