HippY
Hello guys I am looking to change both of my brakes to brand new disc brakes, preferably hydro, and same make My biggest problem is my limited budget, but the rear brake seem leaking, so that needs changed really soon. My budget is £50 (-+10) for each brake, so sadly M810 is not an option, nor Zee. I was looking at Avid Elixir 5, as Inspired are equiped with it, so it should be good for a beginner Also BB7 front, or at the back as well, but I heard it is "spongy" on the back Other options are Clarks S2/Skeleton, but they seem really heavy (1Kg/brake?) My current setups are Avid Juicy 3 (+ point for Avid I have a bleeding kit and DOT oil) and an MT2 on Echo caliper, but the lever is leaking.... somewhere I already have RT66 discs 180mm all around, so it is alright
isitafox
Get a pair of proper MT2's, they'll be cheap enough.
HippY
I have the MT2 lever that is leaking from a random spot, and at £75 they are waay over my budget range
TOMTRIALS123
Deore 2014 brakes are quite good and they're really grabby and that's without the finned pads
niconj
and that's without the finned pads Why would these be any better than other pads? The finns are for heat transfer and nothing else. The Deore come with resin pads which (for trials use) are much better than any sintered Shimano has to offer (finned or not).
Ali C
Sintered have more bite
TOMTRIALS123
Well, the deores are still really powerful for their price. They have never failed for me.

HippY
my skye is gonna have dual saints, dont cry I would not have the heart to spare up and buy a pair of brakes for £300, that is overpowered (sadly) for me and cost 3/4 of the rest of the bike MAKE A BUILD TREAD!!!!ONE! James281098
Oh I am an idiot I didn't mean I use saints.... I forgot to post the link http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/shimano-deore-m615-disc-brake/rp-prod108802?utm_source=Google&utm_medium=Shopping&utm_name=UnitedKingdom&gclid=CIWv7e_c7L0CFUoJwwodBGAA9g&gclsrc=aw.ds

I am not sure if that makes me an idiot or you normal though It seems like a good option then, what disc size do you use it with? are they hold and bite nicely? James281098
I use 180 rotors and they bite and hold really well !!! Which was surprising considering the price..? As I said they are a massive improvement over the hope monos!!! At first the pads are very slightly spungy but after the first ride they were fine and I have no regrets about buying them!! JJ Leigh
theres no exageration, deores are genuinly amazing, however the lever feels strange for trials use, really strange I would not have the heart to spare up and buy a pair of brakes for £300, that is overpowered (sadly) for me and cost 3/4 of the rest of the bike MAKE A BUILD TREAD!!!!ONE! theres gonna be massive gaps between each part though thats the thingggg and overpowered means more feel for less power
Scott Gibbs
Personally I'd say Hayes hfx9 discs. I know a lot of people say they're a bit wooden feeling but I love them.
Ali C
only thing I found with the deore brakes is the amount of pad wobble. It was unbearable for me.
HippY
only thing I found with the deore brakes is the amount of pad wobble. It was unbearable for me. At £30 I am ready for compromises, if I can live with them, and I will buy one first theres no exageration, deores are genuinly amazing, however the lever feels strange for trials use, really strange theres gonna be massive gaps between each part though thats the thingggg and overpowered means more feel for less power i know, I mean If I would have £300 to spend on brakes, then I would go M810/M820 no question asked, but yeah, £30 is all I can spend for new parts after building a half new/half awesome condition bike
JJ Leigh
fair enough, im buying the skye pro wheels and then changing spokes and possibly the rims later if i can find dome deevee's or green pimps, other than that i'd say im sorted for spec. getting both wheels soon which should be cool! and my saints are coming from here - http://www.buckinghambikes.com/brakes/brakes-disc/m810-saint-bled-disc-brake-lever-and-post-mount-calliper-rear.html Tarty dont sell the rear brake anymore, so it makes sense to buy both front and rear from the same place, and theyre cheaper too Edited April 19, 2014 by JJ Leigh

HippY
yes, that what I forgot to ask I heard that they are superb on the front, but "spongy" on the back, what do you think, how does it compare to Deore? And what brake should I put where?
Thee Damon Watson
only thing I found with the deore brakes is the amount of pad wobble. It was unbearable for me. was it powerful though?
dann2707
Bb7 on the rear is awful. First hand experience. Great up front though.
jack dickinson
yes i only ran one on the front and it was great, well worth the money! now i have a saint and obviously that is amazing but for the price i think you should have a bb7 on front, have no idea about the back as ive never ran a rear disc
