As title says I have been drawing up plans and i may hVe thought of a way to make a fourplay (2012+) have a sort of through bolt ..... But first I have some questions....

1. Would anyone be interested in seeing the out come of this?

2. What does a rear through bolt do? (Benifits)???

3. Has anyone else tried this (Welding or any other way) before?

It's also kinda a through bolt not actually a through bolt... Hard to explain,

I'm just messing around and trying not to get bored in the holidays.

Cheers james

2. Stiffer rear end, although if the frame isn't designed to have such a stiffness it can cause issues.

3. Doubt anyone has, welding up most aluminium frames without being able to carry out post weld heat treatment will cause a weakening in the weld area due to the HAZ. Hence why re-welded frames tend not to last too long. That and most of the time the crack isn't arrested properly and the weld merely covers it; allowing the crack to propagate.

What ideas have you got? Feel free to share, sure lots of people on here would be able to help you out and give you some advice :)

I will keep everyone updated then and I'm not welding at tall mate so don't worry haha.

I will explain soon when I have some pictures I think it will end up being more for looks than anything and what problems would occur when you say if the frame isn't designed to be that stiff ect?

What hub are you thinking of running to do this?

Hope pro 2, as said above it's just a theory I have had for a while, it may end up as nothing but it could turn out great? We shall see Edited by James281098

To be honest, with an inspired it's probably ok, they're pretty damn strong frames and it's all relative to the increase in stiffness. BUt if you start increasing stiffness it transfers the force that would be absorbed by the inherent flex in the frame, those forces have to go somewhere and can lead to cracking etc. But I don't think it's really something you'll have to worry about too much. Pro2 hubs with a bolted axle are pretty damn stiff and lots of people run those without an issue.

What are you considering? A 10 or 12mm x135 QR axle? Don't think you'd make it any stiffer without having the axle screwing in the dropout like the newer Fourplay frames.

Sounds cool, however I don't think it'll end up much stiffer than two 10mm steel bolts! Be interested to see what it ends up like though :)

Speaking of through bolts and sorry to crash this thread but I got my Pro 2 axle made up like you said Adam and it's perfect. Such a better and simpler idea!

It more to look like a through bolt than being an actual through bolt, I just think it looks nicer in my opinion, on a different note if I ordered say bars from your website would you be able to take them to tartydays and I pick them up there? :P
