peggysue
My mates just dropped the frame off to build up all is going well until the chain is fitted . It's either too short so the brakes are below the rim and wheel right pushed forward or too long so the wheel is far back and hanging off the dropout . It's running 18-15ratio with a brand new k710 chain . Is this a half link setup ? Can't find anything specific on tartys about it
Jake.
Nope, ran mine fine with 18-15... Move the brake clamps up/down?
trialsiain
Take the silver bits off the chain tensioner system.. don't need em
isitafox
As above, I had the same problem with my Inpulse!
peggysue
Already took them off lol , brake clamps have no kite up it down movement there at the max Bloody phone spelling , no more movement in the clamps only half the pads are touching rim
peggysue
What size chains are you using ? 1/18 or 3/32 ? Also have tryall clamps that clamp straight , if I use standard Maggy clamps I could angle the pads up more but they would be a horrible angle and pads would wear funny .... isitafox
I ended up grinding half the adjuster blocks off and running a half link to cure mine. Consulted the holy gear ratio chart and 18-15 is 378mm and according to Tarty the Limey is 380mm chainstay.
*gentlydoesit
Little bit of a hijack but I may have a similar issue, it seems silly to open another topic. I don't mind running a 16t sproket, is that a cure?
isitafox
What frame have you got? 18-16 might cure it, I've just bought a 16t rear sprocket to try as an alternative to running a half link.
bing
You need the chain to stretch a bit, then you can get your wheel in the right place. Mikey runs 18-15 on his limey 4 with a 610hx chain and he has no problems with it. Like wise rick bollman as well
craigjames
Ran mine with 18:15, KMC610HX, echo SL or TryAll mounts and no tensioner blocks with no issues at all. In fact I know probably 10 other people using this frame a 18:15 ratio and various 4 bolt mounts with no issues, never heard of anyone having an issue until now
Neon-trials
I run 18-15 on mine and have loads of adjustment either way ! Although I did send my inpulse r26 back because the brake mounts were completely in the wrong place and I had the exact same problem
peggysue
Think we are going to wait for some chain stretch , then hopefully the pads will sit better up the rim . Cheers for the help though people
Alex Dark
16:14 z610hx chain and had to mod my clamps to get the brakes far enough back to reach the rim
craigjames
16:14 z610hx chain and had to mod my clamps to get the brakes far enough back to reach the rim But Alex that's because you're running a relatively unusual gearing, the frame isn't designed to run it. Check the holy gear ratio chart. I know chainstay length is dictated by gearing, chain and tension; but 16:14 is a bit of an odd combo now a days. In fact i'd be surprised if it worked perfectly with any modern trials frame.
Ash-Kennard
Mine works perfectly with 16:13, I couldn't get 16:14 to work unfortunately, but with 16:13 the bolts are at the ends of the dropouts, perfect for shit sidehops
AdamR28
To the OP - got any pics of it setup? As above, not seen any issues before. The couple we've built have been bob on. Cheers.
peggysue
I'll see tonight, my mates took it now . It's rideable but pads are not fully on the rim . I'll try grab a couple tonight We are hoping for some chain stretch so we can pull the wheel back further . It's tryall clamps Brand new kmc 710 chain And 18-15 ratio If we add a link to the chain the wheel is literally on the very end of the drop out and then the brake has the same problem of pads not being on the rim , only reverse so half rim half on tyre . Nothing wrong with the clamps , there almost new and the tryall clamps also have a good degree of up and down adjustment . Weird one but either a half link or some chain stretch seems the only solution at the minute
bing
710 chains stretch a fair at first use, at least I found mine did when I first had it on the mod. Once it's stretched a bit you shouldn't have any hassle
AdamR28
I'll try grab a couple tonight That'd be good One of the ones we built is this one: Lines up perfectly as you can see. Is it possible the gear ratio isn't 18:15? Slightly silly question but that's the only thing I can imagine causing an issue...
peggysue
I did count them but I'll double check later tonight
thinkdougie
Im running 18-15 with no problems whatsoever. 610hx chain btw!
