HippY
I love the pink frame, it is soo horrible that it looks good Is not 18/15 gear ratio too low, or is it a good ratio for comps?
Lotus Lu
Why are you using so many steel bolts and such heavy cranks but drilling holes on the frame? The holes will kill the frame.
bing
Not sure drilling loads of holes in an echo frame is a good idea
craigjames
Was more thinking why have such a heavy BB, i know drilling holes is free; but a Ti BB will save more weight and will definitely cost less than a new frame when this dies in the not too distant future. Ille
Thank you all for the comments. Interesting to read your comments about the bike. Holes in the frame - not see anything wrong! A broken frame or not shall see. About BB, cranks and steel Bolts and other details - this is not the end
N.Wood
I can see into the future.
stirlingpowers
Worldcup elite rider David Hoffmann put many holes into the legs of two Trialtech 26 forks. After many months (which is a long time for his massive riding) they cracked nowhere near the holes. The only thing which worries me here are the holes on the lower end of the steering tube and on the downtube reinforcement plate. But hey, if it holds, it will advance frame building. isitafox
Is not 18/15 gear ratio too low, or is it a good ratio for comps? That's pretty much standard for a trialsy 26" bike
craigjames
The only thing which worries me here are the holes on the lower end of the steering tube and on the downtube reinforcement plate. But hey, if it holds, it will advance frame building. Don't think it will, I would go as far as to say that 99% of bike manufacturers know that there are better ways to lose weight from a frame than simply drilling holes in it. With respect to Hoffman's forks, that's just asking for trouble. Forks are one of the most commonly broken components, would you want to turn yours into a glorified aero bar?! An even stranger thing to do considering he's riding a hoffman frame, not really known for being exactly lightweight.
stirlingpowers
Team frames are 100% custom, so weights are largely unknown. Forks break at certain places, and he breaks them all the time, so he probably knows the weak points resulting from his riding.
craigjames
Forks crack/snap at break mounts and steerer/crown points because they are high stress areas. Just because they break there in a normal fork doesn't mean that they won't break somewhere else if you start drilling holes in them! Lord Banks
Drilling holes is a bit dodgy, when the bike takes a ‘shock’, the energy reverberates and gets absorbed into the metal, with holes everywhere, that energy travels further and for longer and gets into the joins and weld areas easier. Ille
Guys dont worry. Bike is not built more for light weight, but for me - beautiful and stylish. Drilling in the frame - I dont think that something will happen soon. But time will tell.
