N.Wood
Hello there, Could someone tell me the best socket size to use for installing an echo spanish bb? Gotta be long enough to fit over the axle too i guess? I wanna buy one over the interwebs right now. Thanks!
Blake
Why not the uber cheap and high value official tool? http://www.tartybikes.co.uk/bottom_bracket_spares/echo_spanish_bb_installation_tool/c103p11917.html
N.Wood
As much as i'd love to spent my yearly wages on that tool, it's out of stock
wilf
I've just borrowed a socket set off my mate and the biggest is a 27mm, it will just about do it but I reckon a 28mm will be perfect.

wilf
Oh hang on, it'll be fine for getting one bearing in but it doesn't fit over the axle to fit the other one. Have to use something with the same diameter all the way through.
N.Wood
Yeah imma need a deep one and use an old bearing as a spacer between the decent bearing going in the frame and the socket.
bing
You need 2 x 28mm deep impact sockets and a large length of threaded bar
wilf
Ahh good shout! Just use old bearings and stack them up! Why do you need 2 sockets Dan?
isitafox
If you're going to press them in you need something that'll clear the axle on both sides
wilf
Put one in without the axle in, drop the axle in and then stack old bearings up to fit the other side

wilf
Bit of wood with holes drilled through it ? Surely wood would just deform too much?
dezmtber
Really hard wood ?
wilf
I replaced mine today and they took some welly to get them in fully, need to modify the shell because the axle still has a tiny bit of play in it even when the bearings are fully seated.
