HippY
Hello guys I need your help I am at the point of choosing tyres for my bike, and it is a street 24 bike, but I kinda got lost It was easy on my mod (I needed something grippy 19" tyre) as difficult here, as I have loads go choice I can go on a dirt tyres, for example DMR Moto Digger. It is cheap (£16) and designed to do DJ There are street tyres, like Swalbe Table Top, Crazy Bob. As far as I am aware they are more for skate parks? And there is the Holy Roller, it seems to be everyone favorite. It is £24 in CRC, really wide ,2.4 So my question What wideness should I go for? Wider the better (Halo has a 3.0 tyre, but it is 1,5Kg )? What type of tyre I should go? I am going to do street riding and small trialsy moves in street environment. I do like low pressure from my mod, I love the bouncy feeling. Is any of these tyre good for them, or I should forget low pressure tyres for 24"? Anything else that I looked over and did not consider, but I should, or I make a too big thing out of tires?
Christiaan
All I can say is that i`m using holyrollers for years on my inspired and have no complains so far. I`m running 2 bar front and rear. Most of the 24 street/dirt tyres have thin sidewalls to keep the weight down, so yes you would need more pressure than you would on your mod. wilf
DMR Moto RT's, they're unbelievably grippy in the wet or dry. Don't go anywhere near mud though haha.
ben_travis
I hate to admit it but I am a 2.4 Holy roller convert since getting them with my arcade. Obviously i'd prefer that conti bought out their 24" street tyres - der skidmark however the holy rollers will do for now. It depends on your rim choice mind you. if you run thin rims then i'd highly recommend something in a 2.2 to stop tyre roll. if you are going with wider trialsy rims then a 2.4 should be fine
HippY
I have Dmr Deevees. They are 36 or 32 mm wide, not sure Yes, those conti tires are extremely sexy, but Adam said they should come out middle april and that is perfect for me... If they release it So dirt tyres would be good for higher pressure? Why is it good if its wide?
ben_travis
what surface are you going to be mainly riding on? I'd imagine street? if so, is it predominantly wet or dry when you ride? Also do you ride trialsy or streety (bmx'y) If dry and streety style, I'd say your best option is the holy roller. i can't comment on the schwalbe, but the DMR (either digger or motos) and the holy roller are both crap for puncture protection at lower pressures (in my opinion). I reckon you will be best running about 3 - 4 bar (45 - 60psi (ish)) to avoid punctures on the holy roller / a dmr moto. the digger will give you more grip, but then it will also create more rolling resistance. gotta weight it up to what you feel is best. you are also forgetting weight. are you a weenie or are you happy to have slightly heavier tyres? P.s. this was a quick response, apologies for the lack of caps or dece grammer
Mark W
Something to consider as well is the type of tube you use. I used to just use Kenda tubes 'cos they were cheap and easy to get hold of, but I found I got noticeably fewer punctures using Welterweight tubes (that are actually a little lighter) because the tube material itself is higher quality and seems to be much more supple. This means if you're getting tyre roll or rimming out it can flex/move with it rather than just tearing like Kendas seem to. When I ran Kendas I used to run slightly higher pressures just to avoid that happening, but I've found I can lower them a little with the Maxxis tubes in. Another +1 for the Holy Rollers though. I just really like the lively kind of feel they have, and the grip they give is pretty reasonable really. In the wet they're not amazing but then no 24" tyres really are.
HippY
what surface are you going to be mainly riding on? I'd imagine street? if so, is it predominantly wet or dry when you ride? Also do you ride trialsy or streety (bmx'y)Well, trialsy as a starter( i know that) and beginner streety from 0, iam building my first stret trials machine Mainly dry( if it rains it is windy and horrible as well here) on streets the digger will give you more grip, but then it will also create more rolling resistance. Is rolling resistance a great problem at street trials? Does holy roller provides enough grip at normal conditions? you are also forgetting weight.I do not care about 100g if i get a better overall feeling, so weight is not important for me Something to consider as well is the type of tube you use Another +1 for the Holy Rollers though. I just really like the lively kind of feel they have, and the grip they give is pretty reasonable really. In the wet they're not amazing but then no 24" tyres really are. At first ill use poundland tubes, but after ill go welterweight! I know that poundland ones are not famous about their quality, but they should do until the next batch of upgrade of my bike As far as i see holy roller is a popular choice here! Hotchy
Holy Rollers! The king of all tyres, I've ridden pretty much everything with them and they've coped with everything. I rode trails with them, I've ridden park, and street with them, and I've never had a problem, other than getting the bastards off to fix a puncture, but thats a fine art, and when you're using spoons it's a finer art still. They're the best for street though, I even used to run them on my BMX before I got my new wheel build and went to KHE.
dk2
I find both moto digger and holy rollers to be good tyres, each has its pros and cons...Depends on type of riding..
dezmtber
Slick up an old fatalbert for the rear, and use a holyroller or tabletop up front

dk2
Ive ridding the dmr moto digger both for park, street and dirt, more grip than holly roller on dirt. On street/park its pretty even, but not quite as fast(rolling wise)...when you pump hard on ramps the digger feels more slow/deforming than the Holly roller.. Is it a big issue at street trials?

Imagine trying to do a long line with a manual between and slowing down because your tyre is fapping along the ground
HippY
okay, so the DMR will be okay as well I will not going to do massive manuals for a while, as I need to learn every street and loads of trials moves out there
Ali C
Go with a HolyRoller until the Conti tyres come out then get those.
HippY
and what about the crazy bob? My friend who did (Pure) street riding told me that they are good, and with 2.35 they are wide enough as well
bing
Crazy bobs are an absolute twat to get seated right. I ran moto diggers on my inspired, 2.1 on front, 2.35 on back for street. Good tyres

benv
I bought Moro rt's and have been more than happy with them in 2.4. Got them at a better price than holy rollers so went for them. Maybe when I'm a better rider I'll try holy rollers but I think for us learning they are more than good enough
