Christiaan
I bought a second hand fourplay the other day that came with the standard elixir brakes and new koolstop red pads. After a lot of sudden stops for beading in and 2 days of riding the brakes are still crap and loud! When I poor some water over them they nice and quiet en work great for a couple of minutes. So what to do? Be more patient or buy other pads?? And what do other riders use with their elixers? isitafox
Ditch the elixirs and get some decent brakes on it
shinydog
Standar elixirs? I got some cheap standar brake pads and avid hs1 discs with my elixirs, they work Instant but make some noise. Maybe its the disc's? i would try using some fine sand paper on discs to get a clean surface, same With pads and maybe do a fresh bleed but thats what I would try

trialsbikingnunn
Dont sand the rotor, just get some disc brake cleaner on the discs and set it on fire, that way it cleans it and burns off all of the residue and excess liquid. Then just ride around alot with the brake on and no water and then it should bed in nicely Edited March 23, 2014 by trialsbikingnunn
Christiaan
I have cleaned the rotors with disc cleaner and cleaned/sanded the pads before riding. So maybe it needs some more time to bed it? Koolstop reds are sintered if I`m correct. Are organic pads much butter trial wise? To bad shimano doens`t make the saint m810 brake anymore. I would love a set of those.
AdamR28
I have cleaned the rotors with disc cleaner Unfortunately this is what's killed your brakes. Sounds stupid, but brake cleaner makes a mess of trials brakes, they don't get hot and cruddy enough to get rid of the contamination it leaves. The other indication of this is that they are loud and don't work when they are dry, but quiet and do work when wet. The only 100% solution now is new pads and rotor, but there are various bodges you can try which will get them ~80% back to life (run a quick search or I'm sure people will be along with info soon!). Yorkshire Dale
Thanks Adam! I`ll see what I can do to get them back to life! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/like/180914466582?hlpht=true&ops=true&viphx=1&lpid=95&device=c&adtype=pla&crdt=0&ff3=1&ff11=ICEP3.0.0&ff12=67&ff13=80&ff14=95 I use this^^ brake cleaner on my elixer 5 and it does the job perfectly! Mine is only a 160mm rotoer on a 26" wheel and its got ample power for me. I'm also using the avid organic pads if that helps? N.Wood
Burn disk and pads to get oil off Clean disk with meths New pads and clean disk with meths is probably best compromise. Pads soak up oil so burning may be only way to get them better. Usually when soaked you may as well buy new. Easier to clean disk than pads. Christiaan
Boiling, sanding and now boil for the second time, we'll see.... Clean the disk with soap and hot water and give them a good rinse with clean water. Hope that it helps. I can heat up the pads in a flame if it doesn't... Otherwise i'll have to buy new pads I guess... Edited March 24, 2014 by Christiaan
Christiaan
Boiled 4x 15min with some sanding in between. After some bedding in, my brakes work great! I'm a happy man!
