Jake.
It's roughly round this time of year that this seems to get planned. Been thinking about it loads recently, asked a few people on rides in Portsmouth who organises it and apparently it varies. So I was just wondering who knows more about it? I guess everyone can decide/agree what happens in this, and I'll edit this post later on with confirmed details, and a Facebook event can be made too by someone I guess. Due to the nature of the ride, I am a bit skeptical about creating this post. So hopefully I haven't offended anyone, if I have just lock/delete the thread asap. CalopS
I loved the one a couple of years ago. Loads of sun and great bike riding, even if half of the weekend was spent chainless. Couldn't make it to last years but hope to make this years one! I think Matt Purdon organised the one I went to? You best have a bike too this time. just curious, who is DJ? im new to the trials "social" stuff but people dont have to say if it gets upsetting or anything I never got to meet the guy, from what I know, he was a well known trials rider who died when a car hit him (99% sure). The ride is done in respect and memory of him. I was just a bit skeptical posting this as it may have disrespected some people in one form or another due to the nature of the ride that's all. JJ Leigh
yeah it makes sense, well i'll happily ride to respect riders we've lost, thats probably what they'd want us to do i think a lot about posting stuff like this, just in case it gets to people, which is fair enough obviously, but i just hate upsetting people and i never aim to do that and people can ride for others too, weather its trials or not, i think riders of any bike sport share the same discipline and i personally think its best to remember people by carrying on and doing what they loved. if i died, id want people to celebrate my life rather than get upset about it, and continue riding because bikes are simply what i enjoy most

Nick Manning
Here's some info about what happened and why the DJ Memorial Ride has come to be what it is. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/oxfordshire/3956567.stm Since this sad day we have lost other rider's over the years, and so though this ride has always been to remember DJ, it has also become a memorial ride for all those people we have lost. It is about all of us who enjoy this sport, "our sport" to come together and remember all those great people who partook in our sport, who we would meet up with, ride with and have a laugh with. It doesn't matter if you knew DJ or not, the fact that we all come together each year to show our support, shows all those that knew him that we all care and our thoughts are with them and anyone else who has lost someone.
Mark W
Keen to get over again for a ride this year From reading that article on the BBC site again, the f**ked up thing is the way that the 'punishments' given to the guy driving expired a while ago. Obviously he'll have it on his criminal record, but the disqualification from driving and the 'detainment' ended a while ago now.
Dan6061
Can't believe it's been 10 years now! I'm sure myself and the local Milton Keynes lot will come down. Always had a good time at these rides

I thought his punishment was much worse than that. It is sad to think he will have been able to drive for the past four years, aside from the criminal record and possibly the memory of his actions, he can live his life as he pleases. It doesn't seem right.
