isitafox
I'm going to build a bench whilst I'm off work for my bike repairs/jobs, current plan is to make it from 3"x2" with a doubled up piece of ¾" ply for the top. It can be up to 7' wide and I was thinking 3' deep and between 36"-39" tall. Obviously this may be altered to fit in nicely with a full sheet of ply being cut down for the top but before I do anything I wondered what kind of size other people used? Blake
This for sitting at like a desk or standing?

*gentlydoesit
Top big enough for a full build to lay on I guees, but the height has to be at a comfortable working height for you. I hate leaning over for periods of time, f**ks my back up a treat!
AdamR28
Can measure ours if you like? That sort of construction you're thinking of would support a small elephant, can be much less beefy if you want.
CurtisRider
Surely you need the extra beef for twatting things with hammers on it?
isitafox
Gonna be using that as there's loads of bits of 3x2 and 4x2 left under the shed from when we did the roof and I was going to double up the ply as that's the same as my dad had in his shed before he made his stainless steel bench. I know that top is good and strong for a decent sized vice and will also come in handy for when we strip down an old Fordson Major tractor. Would be great if you could Ads
Duncy H
I made myself a bench recently, I used an old bit of kitchen worktop my Grandad had laying around. It makes for a nice surface to work on and nice and sturdy. Might be a good idea to ask around a few kitchen places and see if they've got any of cuts or stuff with marks in. Ours is about 98cm, old money... 38 1/2".
isitafox
Started it the other day and did a bit more this afternoon. Just need to add some braces to the legs, fit the top and add a backboard to stop stuff falling off!
isitafox
99% complete, need some ply for the shelf underneath on the left and keeping an eye out for a vice to bolt on. Already done some work on my bike with it and the height is perfect (39").
wilf
Looks great that Dave. Now you just need a bench to sit at next to it, for the more fiddly jobs.
