James281098
Hi guys, I'm wondering how Sean makes his helmet (the SnapBack thing) and if anyone else knows how to do it? Would really appreciate any advice ...
valk
Look through the forums, it's been posted a couple of times where to buy it. I don't know if he's got a very specific one but the ones some people linked were pretty similar.
ben_travis
http://www.screwfix.com/c/safety-workwear/bump-caps/cat850412 google 'bump caps...'
monkeyseemonkeydo
I take it he then disassembled a Protec (or similar) and riveted the straps onto one of those. Not rocket science
Mark W
Nope, it's entirely custom. He's got that particular design patented and I think he's looking into having them produced so they can be sold...
Ross McArthur
Cool! Will they be of UK standard whatever its called, unlike the Pro-tec helmets we use?
Mark W
I think he said he was working on getting all that certification biz. The reason the Protecs fail is because they don't have a one-piece, solid inner, but Sean's helmets do so they should be fine in that sense. James281098
I was speaking to him yesterday and said that he's still testing them then they will go out for production, I did ask how he made them but he said it's very complex .... And with these bump hats do think that it is possible to put the inside stuff into a more stylish hat?

Like compared to say a tsg evolution helmet? How effective and protective?
Mark W
No idea, I haven't tried one/used one/seen one/read up about them, sorry.
N.Wood
How strong are these bump cap things? Like compared to say a tsg evolution helmet? How effective and protective? Bump caps designed for 'industry' ( I use that word loosely, anyone wearing a bump cap doesn't do a proper job) are ok for stuff falling on your head but don't have chin straps to stop it coming off should you fall over. With chin straps, I'd rather smash my head on concrete with a bump cap on than no helmet at all, but I'd hazard a guess and say they don't absorb as much energy as a traditional foam lined helmet, potentially leading to brain-bouncing-around-skull injuries. So what materials are used Ina skull cap? And if they had some sort of poly styrene in it, would that make it more absorbant?
trialsiain
If your gonna wear head protection may aswell get something substantial. Interested to see what his hat helmet turns out like
Sam Nichols
So what materials are used Ina skull cap? Some kind of cloth, cotton would be a nice choice but I guess synthetic polyesters are used in cheaper ones.
N.Wood
Real nice ones are a cashmere / angora mix but they are $$$. As above, cotton is a great mid-range choice

tryallmaster
I value my limited brain cells. More distance between my skull and the object the better in my opinion...
Ross McArthur
It would be interesting to find out what the patent actually covers. His head presumably Ive watched my fair share of Dragons Den to know the details in the patent have to be pretty specific to make sure the design can't be copied. Ah-duh!
