I have been around bikes all my life but this has got to me. The only thing I can think of trying is a skewer that does up vie a Allen key . Has any one had this prob before if so how did they get round it .Any help guys I will be greatful for.
James281098
I had this problem on mine, i changed to 8mm bolts and don't have the problem, quick release ain't the best for the rear because your hopping around a lot
N.Wood
Could you tap the axle to accept some nicely knurled bolts?
bing
Nah, the axle internal diameter is slightly too big to get a good condition thread if you want m6. Think its 5.2mm Id, and you need it below 5mm to get a good m6 thread. I tried this on my bulb hub, and it didn't work.I ended up getting work to make me a new axle made for it with m6 threads in it, and 1mm more on either side so it was more secure in the frame

old boy chez
These might be better http://www.wiggle.co.uk/halo-hex-key-skewers-pair/ That was my next go to . Could you tap the axle to accept some nicely knurled bolts? never thought of that but bing said I won't work .
bing
You could maybe open it out to m8, but I suspect the axle won't have enough meat on the outside for it not to deform, as they are only 9mm outside diameter. It may work tapping to m6, but I wouldn't trust it

niconj
Get the bolt axle man works a lot better Or a Shimano XT skewer, by far the strongest and as light as the XTRs (which is pretty heavy )

niconj
A shimano skewer sorted it out thanks for all your help gents . That's cool. Been saying that for ages in other contexts as well. Best skewers out there even though they aren't on the lightest side.
