The god damn rain.

The main road between my house in Bristol and the M32 got closed today, luckily I was driving over it this morning in the dry with little to no wind. Shit did kick off massively by the time I'd finished my drive though...

I've actually ridden more in the past couple of weeks than I have in the past few months, despite the rain/wind. Couple of semi-covered over spots in Bristol and going out for rides when the floor's wet but drying off have made it all pretty bearable really. I think a week in Barcelona definitely helped though, might look into a similar winter break next year.

Dual disc, riding street mostly keeps me happy, not to bothered about the rain. Just bothered about my mates not coming out because they run vees :(

i ventured out yesterday in search of a dry spot and found a dissused mill with a shelter outside, just gotta setup some sections now :)

I have some bad news for you all, the met office's long term weather forecast says it will rain all the way up until around May :/

I don't believe that, they always over exaggerate stuff like this. I doubt they can predict weather by months.

I've generally found staying away from the media works wonders for it. (....and most other things)

I wouldn't say it's the media coverage, it's just everytime i'm free for a ride with my friends we can't go as it's raining. So it's just back to watching trials videos indoors.

Yeah sorry, it was meant tongue in cheek. The media always make anything vaguely bad seem much, much worse than it really is. Although in this case, a lot of people down here do have it really bad.

Except that the one in the bottom left's what it actually is, if not worse.

That picture works well for the flooding I've seen around London though. There's a big deal made over nothing from what I've seen. Down here though large areas genuinely are screwed.

For instance, 2 pictures in my news feed on Facebook at the moment:

London: Oh no! the curb's underwater!

Somerset: OK this is the worst of it, but there's a LOT of stuff underwater down here. I'm just lucky enough to live on high ground.

This is where that picture's taken by the way:

https://maps.google.co.uk/?ll=51.064621,-2.927063&spn=0.002053,0.005284&t=h&z=18&layer=c&cbll=51.064792,-2.926767&panoid=xjxDZH2wSJMfV14VYgg3Fg&cbp=12,57.19,,0,-0.09

Pretty mental to think how deep that is there. It's going to be a hell of a mess under there when the water finally subsides. Luckily for the most part these area's aren't very heavily inhabited, and most people live on the high ground as that's where the settlements had always been. I think the reason why's been driven home pretty clearly this year!

This comment from Sky News made me laugh...

Liz Sullivan, from Ebbw Vale in south Wales, said: "We've had the worst wind and rain I've ever seen.

"People were struggling to walk, umbrellas were inside-out, and my bins were blown over my wall."

My fiancee is at Aberystwyth which got hit pretty bad last time round, and is getting a beating tonight again. She lives on the seafront as well so it's touch-and-go most of the time as to whether she stays in that house or not.

Other than that I'm getting an hour or two of just about ridable weather every other day so gotta make the most of it I suppose...

Sorry but it's not bothering me. As soon as we get a bit of wind and rain then half the country turns into pussies.

I ride up north and it's grim all the time here anyways.

By "grim" I assume you mean complete destruction of property by water damage right? And 100mph+ wind in some areas...

And East Yorkshire. They seem forget when a man drowned in hull trying to save his son when it flooded last time. But then again it is the north, so the London based toffs and Freemasons won't give a f**k, until like now, where it's affecting their croquet pitch at Eton. I wonder what it's like to be up on the pedestal laughing at all the little people.

Yeah we've had the Morpeth floods which were horrific and also Newburn floods which also happen every year. These happen like clockwork. A few of us were riding in an open sided barn while the 100mph wind that were kicking the shit out the country battered us too.

Point is that if people don't like the weather its tough....you cant do anything about it. The news makes it even worse too like "fisherman cant work because of the storms"....unlucky really, you chose to be a fisherman!

GRRRRRRR!!
