Twitch-119
So, seeing as we don't have one... Has anyone been watching? Any new sports/disciplines you've got into? For some REALLY odd reason I got into Curling last time round, not my sort of thing but I plan on watching it again this year... And of course the actual decent spectator sports; Snowboarding; Skiing; etc. Discuss... ...or not. Also GO TEAM GB! ahem... I'll go hide in a corner now Edited February 12, 2014 by Twitch-
monkeyseemonkeydo
We've had a lot to do with the Skeleton Bob team at work so will be following that closely. All this subjective judging crap just annoys me though. There seem very few events where it's not about what some little nazi in an office thinks of the run rather than anything else. Lord Banks
I’ve found the Slopestyle Snowboard amusing, watching/listening to the BBC stiffs trying to get their heads around backside/frontside and all the trick names.
monkeyseemonkeydo
I thought all the slopestyle stuff was being commentated on by Ed Leigh and some other snowboarder dude who both know their shit... Lizzy Yarnold looking really good for gold on the Skeleton. For anyone who cares she's also really nice and properly down to earth. Fingers crossed
The_Zulu
Watched the America v Canada women's ice hockey the other night for a few hours, and all the events in between. Never realised ice hockey was so brutal! The downhill skiing looks immense too, 100kmh on skis? Nuts.

I should have said, they did this little introduction-mini-documentary about it and they were talking to the ‘normal’ presenters and they all just had blank expressions on their faces. Also, they did a ‘track-side’ interview with a boarder, and they where asking her what she thought of the comp and she basically said she hated competing and she had been told to do it by her sponsors and the interviewer was gobsmacked, he couldn’t get over how she could be competing at that level but didn’t want to compete. And there was a guy knitting just before he dropped in. Edited February 14, 2014 by Lord Banks
Greetings
I'm not really hugely into these sports though I do prefer them to team sports like football, voleyball etc. I don't like snow so don't watch the comps but try to keep up to date watching the news. The only sport I actually enjoy watching is Wimbledon tennis since it's nice and green. For obvious reasons (to some) I paid a lot of attention to ski jumping and for the first time realized that it's about as extreme a sport as it gets. I once stood on top of a tiny ski jumping hill and was scared shitless. Can't imagine what guts it must take to belt down a 200+m one at over 100kph. Those guys must have balls so massive it's strange they can walk. Started reading about ski jumping and it seems that the V shape they fly in has only been around for a few decades, before the style was known but not used because jumpers would get poor marks for style if they used it. So I looked for videos from comps where they didn't use the V technique and it looks even more scary. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tFs7jVgUeDo There are some crashes there which look really nasty so you've been warned. There's one of a German which looks fatal but he seems to have survived according to Google. Besides, how do you actually start ski jumping? I don't think it's like you can gradually do bigger and bigger jumps? Even if you start off with the smallest of hills, you're probably going to need a LOT of courage. Ali C
I prefer the winter olympics to the summer one. Much more exciting sports, more crashes, more speed, more interesting. The Alpine skiing is nuts, Ariels, slope style, ski jumping, toboggan, half pipe are all pretty cool. Couldn't really care less about ice skating, hokey or curling though. There's baby jumps for ski jumping, still a little scary but they're only jumping like 3 meters or something so not too bad, then they build up to bigger and bigger jumps. I must admit watching them slide on their knees makes me smile every time
