ogre
why coat a frame in carbon?
SamKidney
why coat a frame in carbon? Why not? Looks good, protects the frame... cant think of a downside to it really.

SamKidney
Lol really? Time and Money not count? Does time and money matter if they wanted to do it? I've bought stuff thats not mad an ounce of difference to anything about how I rode that Id say was costly and a "waste" of time, but I wanted it so what does it matter? isitafox
I'd assume it's not carbon wrapped, just had that dip coating to give it a carbon fibre effect?

SamKidney
Or ride to enjoy it. Not saying if youre into performance doesnt mean you dont do it for fun, but some people like to spend on their bikes in a way others might not. I dont see a reason for example, to run a King hub when a Pro 2 does the job for half the price, but people like them and will pay for them as a result. Same with frames and finishes. King hub can be lighter, and more engagement points?
SamKidney
What Im saying is they've done it because they like it. Cost aside it does have one or two plus points. The downsides obviously didnt matter. People will do what they want with their bikes.
dave33
How much weight did it add? Does it make it any stiffer?
isitafox
It's not real carbon fibre just a paint like finish to imitate it. Google carbon dipping.
SamKidney
Was going to say it looks like a hydrographic dip. Adds naff all weight so theres really no downside at all, other than what she/he paid perhaps. But again, her bike. Her choice.
dave33
Ah right, I was just going by the title 'coated ' thought he's talking carbon wrapped?
Perez
Yes, its hidrographic dip. Its quite easy to make, and it was like 50£ for this. I think its not so expensive, and the frame got a new and shinny life. The weight was 85 grams more. We did it because we got tired of everyone had identical frames and colours everywere
