dann2707
Turns out my frame is painted not anodised so I was going to see if attacking it with the heat gun might strip the paint as most paint strippers these days are shocking. Would it affect the heat treatment of the frame do you reckon? Cheers
Tom Booth
Pop to your local motor factor and ask if they've got any strip away pro, it's made by a company called Langlow. It's as good if not better then nitromorse used to be. Can't see it affecting the heat treatment thou if you go ahead with it.
AndrewEH1
Star Chem paint stripper is pretty good too.
*gentlydoesit
Some heat guns get to 300ºc, I think the tempering process is a similar heat (for a lot longer) don't know if I'd risk it to be honest, i'll see what I can dig up
dann2707
Star Chem paint stripper is pretty good too. Is it really £30 for 5 litres?! There is a place near me where I took my Comp and they charged £10 to leave it in their acid bath over night. Might do that again.

dann2707
Heatgun might not even shift it if it's powder coated?
Neon-trials
Powder Coating is electrically charged onto the frame and the baked at over 200 degrees so if that don't affect the heat treating a heat gun won't Although paint stripper won't touch powder coating I don't think . So I'd suggest paying a 10er and finding someone to bead blast it the finish is nice also

Blake
The best paint stripper hands down is vaseline. Removes powdercoating and anodising in minutes with a bit of elbow grease

bing
Take it to LSN coatings near Neil's and do it that way. £10 and 100 times less effort, and better results. Then polish itThat said I used polycell paint stripper from b and q and it was quite good to be fair

FamilyBiker
hardening starts at 723 and goes up to 989°C.you´ll be fine with a heat gun even the lower alloy steels (marinos "carbon steel") would temper at 360° upwards. It will be ok to use a heatgun Edited February 18, 2014 by *gentlydoesit
