will ackerley
Hi I was wondering if you can run a sloped stem on normal flat forks? thanks Will
Blake
yeah you can, you'll get away with it more if the sloped bit is still quite tall
AdamR28
You *can* but I wouldn't do it personally.
*gentlydoesit
If you imagine a line through the stem level with the bolts, that's the area of clamp load, if the forks are in the zone (with a few mm over!) then they might be ok, if there's a hole in the stem that the forks don't cover completly however, then the top bolts clamp load will be acting to push the top of the forks into it, which will eventually cause ware and problems. In a perfect world, I'd slope the forks... because I agree with adam

This. And imagine the loads when you land a dropgap for example. You want as much support for the stem as possible.

dave33
I always make sure it's atleast the height of the top clamping bolt at the clamping point at the rear of the stem as a rule.
