James281098
Hello again guys! I wasted a day today filming on the go-pro I had for Christmas but I looked at the footage and it's all jumpy? What resolution and fps and all that do you guys use ? Thanks in advance
isitafox
What did you watch the footage on?
James281098
I uploaded it to the computer, but I hadn't changed any of the settings before I went out so I literally just charged it and went out filming. Which looking back was a stupid thing to do haha
Lewis Gething
Yeah its most likely just a playback issue since you cant really get the frame rate wrong (unless you shot the clips in 4k @ 15fps).
James281098
This might sound stupid but I don't get what you mean by "playback issue"? :/
Lewis Gething
Oh sorry, by that I just meant that your computer may not be able to play the footage very well, rather than the recording being the problem if that makes sense? That's what I get with mine, especially when transfered on to a laptop/mobile.
James281098
How would I get it to play back better on the computer ? How did you fix the problem when this happens to you? Edited December 29, 2013 by James281098
dezmtber
I think gopro recomend a procesor speed of 3.2ghz. Which far more than most laptops have and a laptop video card wont be good enough. mine is normally quite jumpy while i edit it, then it plays on youtube or vimeo once i upload it. Alex Dark
On my hero2 i record at 1080p, any higher resolution and most computers will struggle majorly
James281098
Windows movie player I think would it be good to change the graphics card? And also does anyone edit videos on they're ipad? If so what app?
Dman
Mine is sometimes jumpy when editing and playing back on laptop, windows movie maker was far worse than the gopro studio app. But as said it is ok once exported, and played back on my laptop, tv & phone. I use 1080 60fps on a hero 3. Also use VLC player will play almost anything Edited December 29, 2013 by Dman
James281098
I just downloaded the I movie app on my ipad will this work ok and everything once exported? I thought being it is by apple it should be good? I am also now using 1080 60 fps
hollywoodcrash
I agree, playback over record issue. Use their software on a PC or Mac, http://gopro.com/software-app/gopro-studio follow completely through the three parts-import, convert, edit/export. If using an Ipad, I would think you'd have problems trying to play file immediately .Hook it up to a TV with a cable, or convert it and view it on YouTube as has been mentioned. The post-production for GoPro footage is cumbersome, because the magic is in the level of encoding that occurs in the camera when recording the file. This is what makes the file so difficult to play on an average computer.
PatJsy
I had the same thing when I watched the files on my old computer, ended up buying a new laptop because of it. Got rid of the problem though. As for the editing software I'd recommend this!

dezmtber
My computer likes me if i run the go pro at 720 x 60 fps. its a low enough setting to help the pc while still keeping a lot of the quality
PatJsy
Is the play back OK on your system ? What is your spec if you don't mind me asking as I have just done the same .? It's an Acer Aspire V3-571 i7 3.2GHz, 4GB ram - that's about all I can understand from the sticker on it, I'm bad with these things. It works great for video editing and haven't had any issues with 4k playback so it's perfect for the gopro

I'd honestly recommend the 20 quid sony thing - it's based on sony vegas just doesn't have the fancy features you wouldn't know how to use anyway
