trialsalot
Hi chaps, I've a tensile 96 click freewheel and it's got 2-3mm play. Not only that but I think it's making the chain slack then tight. I know you can buy shims but is this what I'd need or is it bye bye freewheel time? Blake
is the chain tightening or loosening when you're backpedalling? like if you rotate the cranks backwards

trialsiain
Every freewheel I have had does this
williams
Yeah that chain getting tighter and then slacker, is normal. But I don't know what you mean with 2-3 mm play? If it is what I think it is, then it's probably just the freewheel taking time to engage.
trialsalot
With the lock ring as tight as possible, the toothed outer ring that your chain sits on wobbles laterally upto 3mm. I didn't mean the gaps between pawls engaging,I can see how I've made it come across, sorry
dann2707
Yep mine did that too with regards to your last post mate. Normal

isitafox
Inside there should be a load of thin metal shims when you unscrew the lockring. If you take some out the movement will be less so you might want to try taking one out at a time and seeing what difference it makes. Blake
A little bit of movement isn't a bad thing in my mind, means it's less likely to jam up when you're doing something.

I would prefer it to have no play and no lock up personally. wish hope would make a front freewheel

Ash-Kennard
I don't, it'd somehow leak problems with leaky brakes maybe mate? maybe i just got lucky with mine. you talking trials brakes or like m4's? either way they certainly know how to make a hub and many of the same principles still apply to freewheels.
