Jack Brooker
Hi guys, I haven't ridden in years, and a few days ago decided to buy an Onza Skull to get back into it. I used to use tar and loved it, but don't have a clue where to get some! Does anyone know where I can get some? Or any better or as good alternatives? Many thanks in advance! JJ Leigh
B&Q do it, find a fresh road work and melt a bit then pick it out with like a metal spade or just ask road workers nicely for some tar, that's how ive done it just hope you don't get caught doing the melting...... XD you can buy spray on stuff but i don't see the point really, or just get a rim grind, and no it doesn't knacker your rims or make them weaker either incase you were wondering, especially with 20" rims
Azarathal
It will eventually make them weaker but you shouldn't need to grind more than once a month if even that (my grind lasted me from one radfest until the next)
Blake
I use tar because I'm lazy. Not too much though. What you need to do, is find a roofer. Ask him for some roofing tar. Ideal stuff.
Jack Brooker
Cheers for all the replies guys, nice to see the forums nice and active! I've ground my rim, definitely improved it. I've got some brand new blue pads and they seem to have worn in nicely! I'll have to find a roofer and ask nicely! Cheers for the replies guys! Have a good Christmas! Jake.
I've got some brand new blue pads and they seem to have worn in nicely! Belaeys? Rockman blues? Heatsink blues? I've found belaeys to work amazing with a grind and slight dab of tar. Rockman blues are meant to work well with a good grind but no tar. Seen this on someone elses bike and seemed alright I wouldn't run them though. Heatsink blues are softer than the heatsink yellows and they wear quick but have an aggressive bite on grinds, probably best with smooth rim and tar though. Or a dead grind with tar. Never tried them though. If you have a grind try not to put tar on though, it rolls into the "grooves" and makes the rim smoother quicker, so just wait until the grind wears down first if you can. Hope that helps. Merry Christmas x
SamKidney
Rock Blues are ace. My set never really let me down. Always held but the bite was never anything special. Beleays are good too if they work right.
Blake
bite can be effected by frames quite a bit so he may get on with them better

I was always that guy on our group rides that had amazingggggg brakes that everyone loved. Amazing bite and hold, can't rate them any better. Only 'downside' was that they where a bit toooo loud sometimes
