Willeyeam
Hi guys, i'm looking for a reliable wrist watch style heart rate monitor that reads your pulse from the wrist and was wondering if anyone has had any experience with them. Also it needs to be waterproof.
Jenga
The only two wirst HR monitor I know are: Myo Alpha: http://www.dcrainmaker.com/2013/02/monitor-bluetooth-smartant.html Adidas Smart Run: http://www.dcrainmaker.com/2013/10/initial-thoughts-adidas.html both are essentially for running, and have different caracteristics (Myo is solely a hr monitor, no watch function, Adidas has lot of functions) Another way of taking HR is from a arm sensor: http://www.sportxtreme.it/scheda_prodotto.php?codpro=125&menu=mar (sorry it's in italian...) that is ANT+ compatible, so you need a watch or phone that can be paired to it. Willeyeam
I've just been looking at the Mio Alpha and this confirms that it's probably the best bet although arm monitors are also something to consider. Thank You
ogre
what is your aversion to chest straps for? i've recently acquired the tomtom multisport watch with a heartrate strap and i'm really pleased with it.
Willeyeam
I work at a small electronics company and we are developing a product that detects whether a person is present in a specific area. We are looking to use an off the shelf heart rate monitor that transmits to a piece of our equipment. Putting a chest strap on in a work environment isn't really practical. manuel
So why heart rate?
Willeyeam
So why heart rate? It doesn't. It could be any off the shelf device that is easy to put on/ take off and reliably transmits signs of life (to prove it's being worn) via bluetooth / radio waves. Nothing else seemed to fit. Azarathal
Better than just having a tracker because they could just leave it in a specific area whereas heart rate can't easily be faked?

anzo
But if I really wanted to I could just stick it on my dog?

Fair enough - I still can't see any situation where proving people are in a specific area by their life signs and location is going to be useful. I've been a bit evasive about it's specific purpose. I didn't want to give a full lowdown on what we're doing and make it available to the world via google search as it's something to solve a specific problem for a customer who would be looking to patent it if it works out. If anyone's interested enough to want to know more they can pm me.
