tmks88
I had the RQ 2.4 on rear wheel in 2009 when it was around 800g I got flats every ride.... I changed to tryall light tyres since and have been happy with those now Im able to get conti tyres really cheap and was thinking about giving it another go as the 2.4 RQ is now 150g heavier at around 950g what I want to know is: 1. does the new version still get pinch flats often? (compared to try all light for example) 2. how stable is it on natural terrain? (slanted logs and sharp rocks) (my weight is around 94kg / 14.5 stone) before you say get der kaiser, its too heavy and im not able to get this one either
Jake.
With the 950g version, I got pinches every ride. With the tryall I barely got any. I am a very rough rider though.
A.Baxter
I have had two of these tyres both i ver very rarely get pinch flats even landing drop gaps and things. I do run them rarely low pressures too. Although i have a heavy duty tube in thats probably why. I went a year on that tyre without a puncture once ! Also on natural they aren't the best pretty unstable because of how thin the sidewalls are :/ Adam Edited December 2, 2013 by A.Baxter
tmks88
what pressure did you guys run and what was your bodyweight?
Ash-Kennard
get the der kairser!
Skorp
I run the Rubber Queen, 940grams mine weigh. Feels very good, altough abit of a hassle to get it to bead properly ( my last one had the same problem) And the big volume makes it a tight fit into my frame.. Big diametre and volume makes it perfect for natty imo, altough i have had 2x big betty, 1xnobby nic, 1xmountain king supersonic and 3x Rubber Queen, back in the days i tried the Tryall, Highroller and Minion.. They feel sluggish compared to the Rubberqueen. So i do not really know what the new Tryall lite is like, but the rubberqueen is my favourite of the list above. harmertrials
Over the past year I've had: Rubber Queen 2.2, Rubber Queen 2.4, Der Kaiser and a Try All Sticky Lite (all with lightweight tubes). I wouldn't go for a Rubber Queen again. The bounce they give feels almost unpredictable and a bit wacky. They give the bike a really unstable feel and tend to pinch fairly easy. Really not a fan of how they make your riding look either. Kaiser's are incredible tyres, yes a little fat when new but chop a few nobbles off and you're not far off the weight of a Rubber Queen anyway. Super stable, very hard to pinch, amazing grip. Try All Sticky Lite is by far the best 26" option in my opinion. Really light, amazing grip, enough bounce so that it's not throwing you all over the place on the rear wheel.
AkuskaUK
A Der Kaiser Rammstein Projekt is epic, I've hit a ledge so hard it dented my rim... no puncture though!
FamilyBiker
isnt on topic really, but i´m a big fan of 2.4" highrollers with shaved sideknobbles
dave33
what pressure did you guys run and what was your bodyweight? Adam is smooth rider. About 70kgs I'd guess. If you can get that rubber queen with the slightly softer compound and thicker carcas that was produced a couple of years ago it's worth a try. But I think they only did 100 and they are all gone. Try allis best all round ✌
tmks88
yeah its probably not worth trying it, ill get the tryall again for rear wheel but im probably going to get the race king 2.0 for the front, its around 70g lighter than the try all as well
J.KYDD
A common fault by riders when running really light tyres, is not pumping up the pressures accordingly. The lighter your tyre, the harder you need to run it (within reason) to keep it just as springy, and predictable when on natural
Luke Rainbird
Werd. Lighter tyres with increased pressure have always seemed to feel springer to me than relying on a thicker sidewalled, heavier tyre. Guess the bonus of there being a number of different tube types means that no matter your preference of tyre there's enough choice out there to fine tune the feel to taste (other than you nasty bashers killing heavy tyre/tube combos who don't deserve nice things anyway...)
dave33
Common mistake for many riders is to low pressures. Using the tyres bounce won't get you any where. I'm 70kgs and I need 23/24psi in my rear with try all sticky lite
tmks88
I personally run high pressures, everyone who tries my bike says that my tyres feel too hard im around 92kg at the moment and run 1.8-1.9 bar pressure when I was a bit heavier I often had pressures up to 2.2 bar
Perez
Im 90kg, and use 20/21 psi. Go for the Try-All. Put a ligh tube on it, practice your smoothness and thats it
trialsiain
I've had a tryall in since April with a lightweight tube and have never punctured it yet
