bing
So all the crap before about getting a stock turned out to be a load of old shit, I couldn't ride it for toffee nor did I have any confidence in riding. So the only way for me to get it back was to go back to mod. I was planning to build another 09 onza blade, but then this came up. The geo is perfect for me, it rides so much better than my old onza blade. Miles more stable on the back wheel, so easy to get on the back wheel. It's the combination of long ish wheelbase for a mod, and what feels to me quite a long reach. For those that are interested, its 1020wb, +80bb, 350cs and 72ha. Spec is 2011 echo lite frame with echo press fit bb, fly bikes bearings neon forks Viz pro700 bars, inspired lock on grips Onza forged stem Rear 04 magura with racing line piston and spring, 2011 slaves Echo washerless clamps, proper French coust pads Monty hubs, rear tryall rim, front onza hog rim Trialtech cranks, tryall half bash, mg-1 pedals, tensile 60 click freewheel Kmc 610hx chain, maestro snail cams It's waiting some tarting up at the mo, needs the stem spraying properly and the wheels colour matching, but I fancy a single wall rear rim and a new hub at some point. I was out with thinkdougie on Friday morning and had a right laugh. I can't remember the last time I enjoyed riding, felt like I was making progress. I wish I'd never got rid of my onza blade with the saints on. Got static upto rears back, and am working on getting my natural terrain ridng skills back. bing
snap happy. lovely to ride mind. Snap happy? What do you mean. I wasn't aware of many of these breaking
0zzy
mine snapped on the bash mount and i barely put it under any stress. it cracked in about 3-4 places also. really weak.
bing
Not running a plate, and the front bash mount has been removed and smoothed out. I'm not a basher anyway so it should last me ok
0zzy
mine cracked on the headtube, bash mount, chain stays..
bing
Oh dear. I think mine should be ok, I've had a damn good look round and the frame is really clean, no dents or massive scratches, or any signs of big impact. I'm looking forward to proper riding again, on a bike I'm truly happy with
0zzy
yeah mate, good luck, wasn't trying to put you off they really do ride amazing. maybe in need of a brake booster though
bing
yeah mate, good luck, wasn't trying to put you off they really do ride amazing. maybe in need of a brake booster though I thought this, but it's surprisingly stiff, and that's with an 04 lever and a water bleed. No booster is needed. Its miles stiffer than my old onza blade, it has loads of bite and hold
bing
Little update, I replaced the rear rim with a spare one I had that I thought I'd never use again after wrecking my profile hub, turns out this has a 36h rear wheel as well. So it's now got a black tryall rim on a monty disk hub, laced up 4x both sides. Proper bashers wheel. Its strong as f**k. I also sprayed the forks black, and this rear rim also seems to hold a grind a lot better than the old one that was on. The brake is back to its brutality like before. Been out to hull for a ride today, proper t-shirt weather even in December. Rode best I've rode in a very long time
bing
Few upgrades. Changed the front tyre to a 2.1 small block 8, rebled my rear brake, changed the bash to a rawed onza zoot bash because I like the look of it, fitted new white rim tapes, new nukeproof lock on grips, and got some new bars in the form of try all carbons. Just needs a sprinkling of ti bolts now

bing
Did a spot of polishing today. I rawed my forks and stem last week, but then ogre put the idea in my head about autosol. I got some, I was only gonna do my forks and stem but ended up doing the whole bike. Came out ok I think

bing
So carries on the task of continuous improvement and weight weenieing. I have recently bought a new rear rim from Dave Kerr, a trialtech sl. Coupled with a trialtech sport hub I had in the drawer, and some spokes from tartys, I now have a light bouncy single wall rear wheel I saved 100g by changing to a single skin rim and non disk hub. On the old wheel, It just shows how light monty hubs are, even with a double skin 36h wheel, and 4x pattern. Not that much I know, but it feels miles more bouncy now, not quite as stiff at the rear, a bit more feel if you will Coupled with this and a set of monty pro race tyres, the total weight saving over my previous tyre/tube/wheel combo is 583 grams. That's a quite a saving I think. The only way I can go now is a full ti bolt set and a ti bb axle. But that's gonna be pricey Edited February 14, 2014 by bing
trialsalot
I'm in the same boat. become more weight weenie-esque or just magic up some power from some place!

Matthew_Gibson
lighter stem? Carbon forks...
bing
Not paying 300 quid for carbon forks. Too much money. The stem is light enough, there's not one out that's lighter with the same geo that I trust not to snap
Blake
Single wall rims do feel soooo nice (especially on mod) but the strength isn't quite there for my harshness
bing
I dunno George, I had a single wall rime before on my blade, an onza pro diamond, and that was plenty strong enough for me. This feels strong, but with some added bounce as well. As I said before, it feels completely different
