Matthew_Gibson
Bit of a noob question but I haven't had a new one for about 3 years!!!! SO needs one fast! I don't want to buy a new chain tool. and I only have a cheapish park one. I also like to have the split link in (the 3 piece one, iv never had a problem with them) Recommend away peepz

stirlingpowers
Split link = half link? If so, buy Z610 and KMC half link with appropriate width from Tarty, for example. Then, cut chain with tool pictured above to having two inner ends, position half link with "outer" end on an "inner end" of the chain, push long rivet (which came with the half link and was already put on the outer end by the factory) in with chain tool until it is in a middle position so that it can't work its way out of the chain easily. Use KMC chain lock to connect the other inner end of the chain and the inner end of the half link, done. Ride a bit and check that the rivet stays in place permanently. err
kmc z510hx is probably the most popular choice, comes with a quick link too

315r
Kmc kool chain, heavy, but I prefer to keep my teeth in my mouth rather than have a bike 50 gr lighter.. Change it every 9-10 months, I never break one after 5 years of riding.. AAHH! And I never use split link Edited November 7, 2013 by 315r

Change it every 8-9 months, I never break one after 5 years of riding.. I used to break Kool chains all the time. Never had one last more than 3 My last Z610 lasted 8 months before I changed it Edited November 7, 2013 by J.KYDD

Never had one last more than 3 My last Z610 lasted 8 months before I changed it Interesting, just because Kool chains, in theory, have more load capacity than Z610.... I have to say that I never used the Z610 Edited November 7, 2013 by 315r
FamilyBiker
i second the teeth thing haha. sorry to say it again but the wippermann 7R8 is heavy as **** and the split link is much more massive. never broke one of those too. killed 3 kool chains so far,2 on dirt/street bikes and 1 on the old marino. aener
Split link = half link? No. They're different things.A split link lets you split the chain without needing to press a pin in/out.Just to instill confidence, another vote for the Z610 HX.Only ever had one snap, and the one that did went at the end of a very unpleasant two year life
