isitafox
I was just perusing the various 24" frames available on Tarty and noticed something that came to mind when I was ordering my Marino last year. When buying a 26" frame you have a whole host of BB rises available to generally suit your style of riding, there were the older Because Simple which I think were around +30, Echo Pure at +55 and then top end stuff like the Koxx Sky at +65(ish?). Looking at the available 24" frames you're generally stuck with either a high BB frame (+65-75) or a Zoot (+35-40), now taking into account the Zoot is aimed more towards being a street bike which is a bit trialsy you could class that as the lower end of the 26" scale like the Because Simple which brings me to ask, why are there no middle of the road frames (+50) and how would they ride? My first thought is that the market for 24's is too small and people generally either want a compy type frame or a streety type frame but it would be interesting to try one. I considered going for something at around +50 when I was ordering my Marino but was put off by the people who said I should stick with a tried and tested geo rather than going for something unknown. Now I'm no geometry genius by all means but would something along the lines of +50, 72°, 368, 660 reach be that middle ground? Just so everyone knows, I'm not looking at getting a frame built just trying to stir up some life on the forum!
aener
First off: That geometry is curiously similar to the Ozonys Skill I'd say they all go to fairly high BB as that's what is most likely to sell at this time.Making a batch of frames and being stuck with them would likely devastate most trials companies, so they don't experiment too much - if they only do what they know people will buy (whether it actually benefits the rider or not), then at least they're guaranteed to remain in business
isitafox
Yeah I thought that is what it'd come down to, I suppose more so with more compy 24" frames being a relatively new idea. I wish I'd given it a go now and ordered one myself, it always confuses me though as on Tarty's website on the listing for the Zoot where it says the BB height it says comparable to +10mm on a stock. Well that's exhausted that then.
FamilyBiker
my frame has that geo(except for 358mm cs and 655 reach, which makes it even more feeling long at the front),and its quite trialsy without being totally un-streety.i like the way my frame rides a lot,and i´d recommend to give that geo a try. if i´d put a modlike stem on it,it would ride like a comp bike,i would just have to mount a fork with longer rake to get a bit of compy wheelbase. problem is,what suits me could be weird for everyone else, sooo, pointless post of the day somehow. if i where in the uk or you here in germany i´d happily let you jump on my bike and have a go though Edited November 4, 2013 by FamilyBiker
isitafox
I'd have thought that reach would have been about half a mile too long for you, no?
FamilyBiker
as i mentioned in the other thread, its feeling long, but i´m mostly riding street and my setup is aimed at that,so it kind of fits for now. i was just playing mindgames of a tweak here and there to make it even more perfect for me. to be honest i always end up at the actual setup i have it seems to be a massive difference in effective length when having a full comp bike(said reach with those monster stems etc),but i havent found a setup right now that can be used to stretch out more on ups, without losing all the other factors on my bike i already like. might have to do with my bars rolled back and being 80mm in rise, unfortunately i cant change that because it´d kill my wrists...
