niconj
Hello, since I hurt myself pretty badly today (see my blog) I am considering shin guards but don't know which ones are good. What would you guys recommend? The max. width of my calves is 41cm. Thanks, Nico.
isitafox
When I had shinguards I used 661 Veggie guards. Not sure if they still do them but that's the sort I'd recommend. Comfy and not that noticeable to the rider when you're wearing them.
niconj
They do have riot shin guards but I can't find anything on sizing on their homepage which is kinda stupid!
isitafox
http://sixsixone.com/size-chart I have pretty big calves and a large fit me fine though I wouldn't go for something with built in knee protection. Have a look on ebay and see if you can pick a set up 2nd hand!

FamilyBiker
so far i did come away lucky with not wearing my shinguards most of the time i´ve ridden yet. mate of me got bitten by his "point alien II" pedals back in the days(they leaved triangle shaped marks in his shin bone),lost a piece of shin because he got an infection. he´s fine but his leg looks like he´s been attacked by a shark while surfing, yikes Edited November 4, 2013 by FamilyBiker

isitafox
jitsie ones look pretty good on tarty I'm gonna have to disagree with you on that one. I reckon a youngster could get away with them but anyone over 16 is gonna look like a berk (awaits backlash)
FamilyBiker
agree, look like you stickerbombed your shins
deivijs12
Ive got nukeproof knee/shin guards they are great but one annoying thing is they have a rubber line kind of thing behind the straps on your leg and it hurts to put them on or pull them off
Dazza1414
I'm gonna have to disagree with you on that one. I reckon a youngster could get away with them but anyone over 16 is gonna look like a berk (awaits backlash) I know what you mean, and to be fair if I had them they would be hidden as I mostly ride in jeans

hezzay
cheap football ones are alright Not for me they're not. They just change the primary target from your shin to your kneecap.. Ouch!
old boy chez
661 all the way they are what I use and they are great saves knees and shins yet still give me freedom on the bike .
niconj
I don't think that the ones I bought will save my knee for they end well below it I guess. Here's the reason why I bought some. See the upper cut? If it's only a shin guard, it wont help on cuts like these but I don't care. That was the one I barely noticed. The one on my shin was a hell of a pain though. Bloody Sunday von niconj auf Flickr And here's the video how it happened. I doesn't look like a big hit. http://beginners-trial.blogspot.de/ Nico. niconj
Just got those guards in the mail. Took almost 2 weeks from GB to GER... They fit even though the upper velcro is a little short, that is, it's a tight fit. I guess XL would've been better but then again they will widen a little I'm sure. isitafox
You shouldn't need them for too long, once you get the basics down and get used to your body positioning in trials you should stop slipping from your pedals. Of course this is all relative if your pedals are crap and don't grip well to anything...
niconj
Well, the cuts I got from slipping will take a long time to be forgotten. So far I'll be using the shin guards. BTW, I use Five Ten Shoes and some pedals whose name I've forgotten. They have a lot of 5mm pins. Edited November 16, 2013 by niconj
FamilyBiker
are they the pedals that came with the bike? wellgo lu-a53 have the same on the new bike again, they only have normal ball bearings, but if you adjust the bearings once in a while they are ace. they eat shin meat though Edited November 16, 2013 by FamilyBiker
