forteh
A gas lense gives better laminar flow of the gas to give a more stable shield at lower flow rates. Can't quite tell if that's a mesh screen or a lense element. dann2707
Oh right yeah I'm using a gas lens kit with it mate
AdamR28
Decided my TIG needed some practice, so built myself a frame... Learned a lot, especially about cup sizes and how to cope with tight areas. Best with sound on so you can hear how lovely and quiet it is Loving singlespeed - it's so... freeing. It's just 'a bike', like being a kid again - "Mum, I'm going out on my bike!" - no shock settings to think about, gears to think about, saddle height to think about. Definitely recommend it

aener
Kinda one-upped me there, didn't you! In every aspect. I don't "get" hardtails, but damn it looks nice enough to make me want it anyway!
AdamR28
Thanks guys! I don't reckon I 1-upped you Flipp, your custom frame was the inspiration to give it a go!
dann2707
I only use these gas lense kits now. 900% cheaper than the fupa ones and give really awesome coverage of gas. Downside is I smashed two in one day as I was being clumsy. Really are worth it though, especially as you can have your stick out a ridiculous length for tight places. Helped with thr exhaust massively.
AdamR28
Cheers Dan, that's handy info! I guess the glass helps with vision too?

dann2707
Just finished my first lobster/pie welding. Went well
forteh
Dann6638599165_9, fancy a bit on the side? The whole instigation of this thread was me making a link pipe for my supermoto to suit a new exhaust can. Due to various reasons I never got it finished (ran out of gas, shed got filled with crap so lost access to the welder buried at the back, no on the fly amperage or arc control, babies, life, delete as appropriate). As such I have a bike with no exhaust because of a 12" link pipe. Two into one collector is nominally done, just some lobster cuts to wind it through the subframe. Fancy a play with it? Can drop the bike off at yours as you're only up the road Payment in digestive biscuits or mars bars.
dann2707
Got any pictures mate? Do you have the metal too? Incredibly happy to help but would like gas covered
forteh
I have some tube, not sure if it's enough though, off the top of my head it's 2.5" 16swg 304. I can get a bottle of argon for about 25 quid from our work supplier with no rental. I'll touch base with you (fnaaar) in the new year

dann2707
Taking the welding a little further and after speaking to an acquaintance of mine, he's designed and ordered me a fab table. Pretty decent size for what I need too. Weighing in at 450kg too haha Can't wait to do some more fab work now!
dann2707
Started building bits of the table up today. Today was the adjustable feet Everyone loves close ups properly love welding it's hard to put into words haha
craigjames
Looking good,Improving all the time! I'd love to have a TIG welder to give this all a go. Found it properly therapeutic when I did a course a few years back. How much did your plant set you back out of curiosity?

Been mig welding today and it's safe to say I am sick of it for the day. I could never do it as a job thts for sure. The first tig welder I got was £350, that just did steel but then I upgraded to an acdc unit which can do alu too, that was £1600 ish. It's nearly ready to flip over
dann2707
Today I've tig welded the captive nutted end caps to the legs and then nearrrrrly finished it until my mig wire ran out haha (half way through a section lol) It's a f**king beast!
dann2707
Beast is in f**king in love. Struggled massively with 4 of us to flip it as its actually a smidge over 500kg
Eldertroll
Not a bad effort that. Not much throat on any of those welds though

Eldertroll
If it’s stayed all square you’ll be fine then
