Looking to get some Rainbow Titanium Rotor bolts and some odd bolts to wack on. Also Stan Bolts are very expensive, have any of you found others around? Mark W Posted October 16, 2013 Report Share Posted October 16, 2013 I'm currently running Ti axle bolts, stem bolts and seat clamp bolt, and would happily run them as rotor bolts and caliper bolts too. I know countless riders who use them for both comp and street - as long as you use some decent Ti prep kinda grease and decent tools with them you shouldn't really have a problem. In terms of prices, a lot of them are much of a muchness really. Ti bolts are generally expensive whether they're Pro-Bolt, Trialtech, Stan, Ellen or whoever. I've seen quite a few that are very cheap I would avoid them like the plague unless they are made to a known standard. Bolts & screws should be forged and then threaded, some chinese cnc machine churning them out of bar stock by the million is just going to make weak as shit fixings even if they are made from 6al4v titanium. kevind Posted October 17, 2013 Report Share Posted October 17, 2013 Put some on my sons bike for this year and although I cant remember where I got them (internet company) and they were not cheap ones, they have rounded heads ( I have very high quality allen keys) I also took a hacksaw to one and it went through it like a steel bolt. I am no specialist in metals but I thought it was very hard to cut or work titanium? Any that were constantly worked on (wheel bolts) just packed in pretty quickly. Mark W Posted October 17, 2013 Report Share Posted October 17, 2013 Heads rounding can often just be poor quality allen keys, or if you're putting a lot of force through them not making sure you hold them securely in place. I've had some of the Trialtech M5 Ti bolts on my stem for quite a while now and they've been spot-on the whole time I've had them. I've seen quite a few that are very cheap That's what stans one are, they are just getting sold with a hell of a mark up here in the uk. I always use park tool Allen keys as they tend to be slightly bigger as in 5mm will be more or less 4.95/5mm other high quality tool for different trades such as auto mechanics tend to use the -.1mm tolerances so they normally are about 4.9mm/4.95 mm but generally all iv checked where -.1mm 4.9mm, 5.9mm etc which makes it easy to round the heads Iv never had a problem with most but I have had the head snapp off a trialtech one that was fairly old. Dead happy with the quality and no signs of wear on the heads what so ever. Find the allen keys I use tend to "click" into the heads. Was really impressed. I get mine cheap through a UK importer.
