N.Wood
Hello, fellow horticultural enthusiasts. I need to add an edging between some lawn (existing) and some gravel (to be laid). There are all sorts of ways of doing it - concrete edging things, plastic rolls, fake logs etc. I kinda want something modern looking (no wooden log rolls / pie crust concrete edging) but not sure whats actually any good. Going for a 20mm plum slate gravel and need about 18m worth of edging. Thanks.
Little Yoshi
Straight line or going to be corners?
N.Wood
Straight line with a 90 degree corner (so yeah, just straight lines).
Little Yoshi
Pics of garden?
N.Wood
Uh, none available at the moment (dark) but imagine a small rectangular garden with 0.7m thick border of gravel down each side and grass in the middle. Kinda like a stereotypical small garden really, just a rectangle.
Little Yoshi
Gravel border all the way round or just down the one side and the end? And never really seen a small garden before...
N.Wood
Down both sides and the end. Like that basically. Grass in middle, border of gravel on either side and and the end.
Little Yoshi
Wooding edging? What kind of modern thing you thinking off? Maybe you can get some slabs of the same colour of gravel and cut it into strips?
trialsiain
Wood edge
N.Wood
Wooding edging? What kind of modern thing you thinking off? Maybe you can get some slabs of the same colour of gravel and cut it into strips? Ok, wooden edging - Can you give me examples? I kinda imagined someone who did this for a living would be like " this is a great product that we use a lot, if you don't like that try X, if not Y is pretty good but expensive" sorta thing. Wood edge Care to elaborate?
AndrewEH1
Have a look at this: http://www.homedepot.com/c/webapp/catalog/servlet/ContentView?pn=how_to_install_wooden_landscape_edging_HT_PG_OD&storeId=10051&langId=-1&catalogid=10053 You just need to get down to your local wood supplier and buy some treated wood in the correct dimentions and length Edited October 1, 2013 by AndrewEH1
BradJohnson
I was working at a house a few days ago and in their garden they had old railway sleepers as edging, is simple but effective. They had also made a planter from them which looked cool too.

Little Yoshi
Or treated decking. Made plant box's out of them a few time. Would make nice edging, if you use some 2"by" as stakes or even bits of the decking cut sort with a point cut on so its more descreet than the 2"by1". N.Wood
Gotcha, will take a look at this... Looks like an easy-ish way to do it and I need to make some sort of mini wooden retaining wall so minus whale do the whole jobby at once. shamus
Scaffold board is expensive but very well treated and pretty tough. we have a stepped retained area as a Veg patch using scaffold boards and 2x1" stakes.
