Mark W
So yeah, seems to be no post about this - the final round of the 2013 UCI World Cup series was on this weekend in Antwerp. The sections were all based right in the heart of Antwerp and featured a fairly varied mix of obstacles/terrain, from general man-made construction site type stuff through to rocks and logs. There was a good spread of super tech and generally massive moves as well, and even a couple of kickers too... In 26", Jack Carthy, Gilles and Vincent all qualified fairly comfortably for the Superfinal, although Kenny only just made it through to the Superfinal after Aurelien Fontenoy 5'd his last section. Kenny rode first and did way better than he had in the Finals. Vincent was up next and picked up a bunch of 5's. Gilles was up after that, and again got a load of 5's. Jack rode last after getting 1st place in the Finals, and followed that up with a win in the Superfinal. In the end, Jack finished first, with Kenny picking up second courtesy of Gilles and Vincent both tying on 35points. That meant that overall, Gilles took the title by 10 points (560 to 550) from Vincent. Pretty close... In 20", Benito, Ion (can't remember his surname), Dani Comas and Rafael Pils qualified for the Superfinal, and ultimately Benito smashed it. Before the Superfinal he was already comfortably in the lead, and just got further ahead. He cleaned some stuff that no-one else really even tried to do clean. Good to see him back on form again. Overall, Abel took the series win, with that Ion guy in second and Rick Koekoek in third. It seemed like there were about 5 million photographers there so I'd imagine there'll be some photos floating around soon (Ben Swales has already posted up quite a few on the Trialtech Facebook page), and the OD Films guys were filming everything so they'll presumably have a video out soon too. Anyways, a "f**k yeah!" to Jack for taking the win. There was a reasonably large UK contingent there so the atmosphere when he finished was pretty, pretty, pretty good. Hopefully this means good things for next season...
