Canardweb
Hello, I own an Echo SL which is 3 months old. I never had problems with this freewheel in the past but I broke one that was six months old before this one. It just snapped. This one is weird. When I roll and have my right foot down it makes a rattling noise that is unusual and way different from the usual clicking sound. You can still hear the normal clicks but there is a rattling sound added. Also when I lift my foot or place my cranks at a different position it stops making it. Has anybody experienced that before? What shall I do? Thank you
N.Wood
Sand or someshit in the bearings? Or infact just the bearings rattling around? They sound like a maraca.
Sam T
Pulled from the Tarty site : These freewheels may appear to 'rattle' from new - this is down to the bearing system. It would be possible to add an extra bearing in and stop the rattle, however this would then cause the freewheel to lock up! I take it that this is a different rattle to the one explained above? Thanks for both input. How can I know if it sounds like this? The noise is pretty quiet. I am scared to ride it, does anybody know what I can do if this is it? ALso the fact that it only makes it at a particular position of the cranks make sit feel weird... Please help!
Sam T
take the crank off and just shake it, if it still rattles like the one your hearing at the moment then its meant to be like that. Edit: Possibly worse in one position because the bearing holder isnt a perfect circle? Just an idea Edited September 24, 2013 by Sam T
bing
Can't believe echo don't use caged bearings like tensile, they are miles better
AdamR28
Can't believe echo don't use caged bearings like tensile, they are miles betterThey (and every other manufacturer) do it in order to almost double the load capacity. bing
Ah right. Didn't understand dude. Surely white industries solution is the best, if more than a tad pricey. Proper sealed bearings are miles better and could take more load surely?
SamKidney
Mine makes this same noise. Right foot down, makes a rattly noise when Im moving fairly quick. Alter my crank position, it stops. Did it since day 1 and over a year later its still spot on.
Canardweb
Thanks for your inputs. I'll try it this evening. Perhaps a bit of WD40 wont be bad too...
Canardweb
Ok, so I have cleaned it completely with WD40 and it still rattles. It also skipped for the first time yesterday evening. Can anyone help?
AdamR28
I wouldn't worry about a rattle, but you need some lube in there really. Chain oil, motor oil, etc.
