MadManMike
Hello TF'ers... I'm going to Edinburgh in late October. Can any locals recommend nice areas to stay in? Looking at fairly cheap hotels but don't wanna stay in any ghetto areas Cheers in advance chaps x

Little Yoshi
Anywhere at the top of Leith walk. Near the John Lewis center at the end of Princess Street. We used to have a flat in Hart Street that was close to the center but quiet at night. So I would say near there would be good.
Matthew62
Hello TF'ers... I'm going to Edinburgh in late October. Can any locals recommend nice areas to stay in? Looking at fairly cheap hotels but don't wanna stay in any ghetto areas Cheers in advance chaps x Haha, you'll struggle to find anything close to ghetto really. The West End is tourist central but is quiet pretty and lots going on so makes for a decent place to stay and is damned central. Old Town is worth a shout as might be a bit cheaper and you'll get to experience the proper Gothic architecture and what not so feels unlike anywhere else in the UK. The top of Leith walk is good as there's lots of holiday apartments there (often cheaper than a Hostel) but it's not that pretty but is close to the City. I wouldn't venture in to the heart of Leith. Nothing wrong with it as such but slightly downtrodden and a bit of a walk in to town. Bruntsfield is a bit further out but might be cheaper and is a nice walk in to town through the meadows (where Danny flaired the tree). New Town/Stockbridge is also very pretty but could well be the most expensive area to stay. Loads of good pubs here so worth a look around. Edinburgh isn't as small as people make out but you're not really going to go wrong in any area and everything is accessible and it's a great place to stroll around so a bit of a walk shouldn't be an issue.
