Mark W
Fabio hasn't got an account on here (as far as I know?), so I thought I'd post this up on his behalf. Really good riding and a cool idea = beltin' video.

PatJsy
I think we've found a winner. The riding is good but I'd be quite disappointed if that was the winning video... In my eyes there was not enough actual trials and the creative bits seemed oddly familiar, it's as if they were taken straight from someone else... CalopS
it's as if they were taken straight from someone else... Wasn't it you that posted a picture trying to imitate that someone? I sort of agree but the more I see if him there more I like his riding. The up to wooden rail to alley oop 360 stuck out for me.
Mark W
I think the log line was probably a lot, lot more tech than it looked too. 'cos of the angle it kind of hid some of what was going on, but that shit isn't easy. See also: Wooden rail to alley-oop 3 line Carl mentioned. For me, his actual trials skills showed through pretty well but he did some rad shit that I wasn't expecting (for example the skateboard catch was a pleasant bonus at the end of that line) and the concept itself was done pretty well. It wasn't 'just' a riding video and that's the whole point of this comp, which quite a few people seemed to miss last year.

I sort of agree but the more I see if him there more I like his riding. The up to wooden rail to alley oop 360 stuck out for me. haha I knew someone would catch me out there! That was more to do with the photo itself though, would have still done it if it was gary glitter on the bike It might just be me and I'm all for taking inspiration from other riders but if your riding is mainly based on someone else's then there's very little room for you to do your own thing... As a bmxer I see that a lot with kids in skateparks all trying to learn whatever Harry Main do in their edits rather than look at a greater variety of riders and pick out the things they like. At the end of the day it doesn't look great, there's a few french riders you can look at if you want some examples Just a personal opinion though and I do think Fabio is a good bike rider, it'd be good to see him do a bit more of his own thing though

Ross McArthur
I agree on the trick check list comments. He's got stacks of balls and that’s great but it would have been cool to see it looking a bit more like his riding and not someone else’s. Even the up to front 180 to tail whip off the bench looked exactly the same as Danny does it in the WBH. It didn’t help that he does it on a bench too. I didn’t really like the punching the sky bits in a lot of the clips either. I'd rather the video flow rather than have it the way he did. I'm also having second thoughts as to whether the Get Creative guide lines are a bit naff or not. Don’t get me wrong, im all for people getting "weird on their bikes" but the forced "ideas" for videos is making me cringe a little.
PatJsy
Glad someone agrees so I don't look like a complete hater here ha I guess we'll see Fabio's own riding when the other person stops putting out videos... Oh and about the creative part - agree as well. If the way you ride is naturally creative then it will show no matter what you film. The idea of being creative on purpose seems a bit wrong Edited September 9, 2013 by PatJsy

Mark W
Oh and about the creative part - agree as well. If the way you ride is naturally creative then it will show no matter what you film. The idea of being creative on purpose seems a bit wrong The reason Ben set the competition up in the first place was to try and push people to make videos in a more interesting/better way. Being 'creative' doesn't just mean trying to do the weirdest shit you can think of, it can just mean thinking more about how you're riding or filming or editing. Putting a bit more effort into stuff isn't "wrong", and neither is giving someone a nudge in that direction either. The competition last year produced some really good videos, and it was clear people were enjoying coming up with stuff to do which can also be seen by the reaction to the 2nd comp being started up. Another thing about it as well is that it gives people a context to try out different stuff and to come up with something new in a scenario where people are going to be more receptive to it. For example - Ali's video from last year wasn't something he'd have done if there wasn't the GETcreative comp to showcase it in, and I'd imagine some of the other 'different' videos might not have come to be were it not for that outlet too. Ross - It's pretty clear you were/are into Akrigg (hence the Trial Noir stuff you got made up), and I don't really see that as being all that different to Fabio. He got into riding from seeing Danny's videos so, much like you've been influenced by Akrigg, he's been influenced by Danny. If you look at his older videos (where it was much more Danny-trick-list) compared to this he seems to be doing some different stuff, and taking 'hints' from other riders videos/lines too. Virtually no-one has a completely unique riding style that is totally uninfluenced by other people - you get your own style from taking cues/inspirations from different riders. That's basically no different to what Fabio's doing, except his whole riding 'career' has happened over such a relatively short time it's a lot clearer for people to see what's going on with it. Ultimately, his level of riding is insanely high for someone riding for such a short period of time, and as a younger guy it's not too surprising he's doing some stuff similar to one of his "heroes" (for want of a better word). I don't really have much of an issue with him celebrating after moves either. It's pretty cool to see that he's happy with certain stuff that he's done, and not just trying to ride out doing the whole cool guy/serious business poker face. PatJsy
Being 'creative' doesn't just mean trying to do the weirdest shit you can think of, it can just mean thinking more about how you're riding or filming or editing. That was my point exactly, I think creativity is more to do with finding ways to ride spots you wouldn't normally ride or incorporating tricks that don't quite "fit" into your riding. At the end of the end, you can do whatever you want even if it's borderline identity theft. I've seen many people do it in BMX and a lot of them got bored of riding quickly because they weren't really doing what they wanted to do. Yorkshire Dale
really enjoyed the video and the idea of it all being a dream n stuff that in itself is the creative part in my eyes. its a cool idea that as far as i can remember hasnt been done? hes obviously a beast of a rider for his age and looks like he really really enjoys himself on his bike with all the air punching. hats off to him for trying to ride like danny mac. i would if i could
manuel
loved some bits, hated others. A great video ! I get what some people are saying about the riding/tricks being nabbed from other people, but its not any different to me doing an up to front on something or a manual - I copied them from someone, its just they are so old and standard no one gives a poo. And hey - If I could do any of those moves damn straight they would be in a video. I think that as the guy gets better (as he seems to be pretty quick ?!!) He will be able to throw them in and interpret them in his own way a bit more, and make them a bit more his own. anyways - liked it. And full standing was the best bit - nice bit of stabilisation and a great move. I want that to be best trick, but Im hoping for a better winning video

persistant_itch
I completely understand where people are coming from with the Danny mac comparisons, but if you think about it, Fabio has likely got into trials because of dannys vids, and is inevitably going to emulate his inspiration in some way. Think of music, alot of it is inspired by a someone gone before, and you can hear it cleary, it doesn't mean you wouldn't buy the album,or that the bandisn't talented. it's just an inevitability. I was really impressed by the video, but it shouldn't win this comp, it might, but it shouldn't.
ben duda
Good video nice riding great landscapes. Where he catches the skateboard is cool. But I can't help but see the skateboard n think of Sean Watson. The vision of the kid growing up and riding is very much the same as Danny's imaginate in my eyes. The way I got in to trials is through seeing the april 2009 Danny mac video and I suppose I do try to ride like him and do alot of similar (but not quite as good) tricks! but if I was going to film a video especially as fabio is a team rider I'd try to do something slightly different. I did love the line where he knocks over the other picnic table. On the whole a great video.
