Trials-Mikey
Hi guys. After being out riding my bike I was just checking my bike over when I found a crack situated around the support that joins the top tube and bottom tube together. I was just needing to know how important it is to get rewelded or if I can still ride no bother thanks
isitafox
Is it not still within it's warranty period anyway?
Blake
any crack is probably more likely to get bigger, the good thing is you have a steel frame so you can take it to any decent welder and tell them what metal it is and they'll probably just blob it up for you cheap. Trials-Mikey
Is it not still within it's warranty period anyway? It is but sending it back to jaf is a lot of effort and he barely answers his phone now.

Blake
sand a bit of the paint off and make sure it's the actual metal that's cracked.
Trials-Mikey
sand a bit of the paint off and make sure it's the actual metal that's cracked. I have and it is the metal and the cracking goes most the way around it. Can I still ride with it. ?
Blake
you can, but it's one of those things, you shouldn't really. if it cracks and you warp the metal then you won't be able to re weld it easily, so i'd take the opportunity of this rainy week and find a local fabricator to seal it up x
monkeyseemonkeydo
You can but I certainly wouldn't.
FamilyBiker
would be better to get some kind of gusset made, not just to overweld tha actual crack. a crack always has a reason like tension in the material etc,a gusset would spread future loads away from the crack it has now
Trials-Mikey
How exactly do you get a gusset for there ?
Revolver
Find someone with some sheet steel and tin snips.

trialsiain
Get it sorted look what happened to Brad! Thats quite different though , alloy shouldn't be re welded after its been heat treated .

*gentlydoesit
I can't tell, it might be the picture but those welds don't look great.. is it gas welded? I'd gusset the badboy, and keep an eye on the other joints.
Al_Fel
That looks rough as arse holes! Dodgy looking welds, crappy paint job. How much did you pay for that frame?
Skoze
Have to agree with Alan there! Jesus. Get on the blower to Josh, he seems a good bloke so even if it is outside warranty he should be able to re-weld it and get a gusset on for you. harmertrials
As nice a guy as Josh is, Jaf frames and many of his components are shoddy. I know of many frames cracking, many sloppy fixes, many things bending. Hope you can sort it though.
Blake
His frames are pretty shoddy but his customer service makes up for it I think.
craigjames
No amount of customer service will make up for poor products. It helps ease the issue, but never solves it. Josh will most likely sort it for you because he's a nice chap. But there is a reason that a good quality custom/ handbuilt frame costs so much.
Trials-Mikey
No he said he wouldn't fix I quote this message from him. "Sorry chap, but jaf bikes is closed now. I would give you some compensation, but the warranty period has come to an end on your frame aswell as the company no longer being registered." So Leigh booth has kindly offered to fix it for free.
