Mikec
The front hub on my bike us a but notchy, can they be rebuilt or is a new hub needed? Cheers mike
bing
Change the bearings, simple as that. If it's none sealed, you'll need some ball bearings and grease. If it's sealed, get the number off the bearing and go to a bearing shop and buy some more
dezmtber
if its the old t-bird in your previous posts. it looks like a cup and cone setup, like dan says above you need some loose bearings and grease. you will also need a cone spanner to adjust the hub. bing
Yeah you need ball bearings. It should be able to be done, providing the races aren't pitted
*gentlydoesit
9 times out of 10 the bad baring will have made the cone tighten, f*ckng up a race too. They just knock out with a screwdriver from the other side. Look for an old bmx hub, it should yield everything you need ;D
williams
Just curious, how 'notchy' is it? My friend ran a open bearing onza hub for ages, even though it was quite 'notchy' and rough..

It's a difficult one to say, I'm a home mechanic on cars so know a bit about bearings etc. and I'd definitely rather get it sorted, especially being the front wheel,if it locks up when I'm riding, its not gonna be nice Cheers for the replies guys

Mikec
Yep years ago, about 15yo, I'd had a puncture, had the nut type axle on my front wheel, and never tightened them up, went out on it the next time, steaming down the road and lifted the front wheel to go up a kerb, and the inevitable happened, I ended up using my face to stop me. Hence why I'd rather not chance it again!
Blake
I'd just get a sealed bearing hub mate, last so much longer and no hassle
