Rebelistic
Can anyone help me with a video file problem?I have some files off my camcorder (.MTS file extension). They were recorded at 50 fps. If I play them in windows media player they play ok. The problem is if I put them in my video editor (ulead video studio) when I export them they play at half speed (I assume because there are too many frames ie. playing a 50fps file at 25fps).Does anyone know of a way I could convert them to 25fps files or any possible solution to my problem? Thanks )
FamilyBiker
turn the deinterlacing function of your software off i´d guess or simply set a lower frame rate with virtualdub? Edited June 18, 2013 by FamilyBiker
Revolver
50fps is indeed a result of interlacing. This is why you get 1080p and 1080i, by the way, lol. I always recommend getting hold of a copy of premiere or something along those lines.
FamilyBiker
deinterlacing is manipulating the playback speed due to the framerate change,or am i wrong?
Revolver
As far as I understand, interlaced frames aren't complete frames, I think every other line of pixel is recorded and then in the next frame the missing lines - 1, 3, 5 first and then 2, 4, 6 second. The files run at a faster frame rate with potentially less blurring and it doesn't affect the filesize. Deinterlacing I guess merges the extra frames so you get complete frames. If interlacing reduces blur, if you deinterlace it you don't actually change the picture so the video should be just as crisp, just more compatible. Lewis Gething
What Rebelistic needs to is change his composition settings to match that of what he used when he filmed the clips, in this case the frame rate of the comp needs to be changed from 25fps (this is why its half speed because 50/25=2) to 50fps
Revolver
You say that, but if the original file is interlaced, deinterlacing will have the same effect and be more compatible.
Lewis Gething
Very true, although he didnt say it was interlaced so I assumed it was progressive, but you are definitely right if thats the case
Rebelistic
I've found a converter that makes the files into AVI files, then editor seems to handle these better. I don't know if they are interlaced or progressive? I couldn't get my editor (ulead video studio) to be set for 50 fps files, I can see an option in the preferences but when I select it it doesn't have any other options only 25 fps. I should probably get a better editor but this has always been ok with 25 fps files.

We might be able to tell you if its progressive or interlaced
Rebelistic
It's a sony handycam HDR-CX130
Lewis Gething
It's a sony handycam HDR-CX130 Okay, according to this site: http://www.digitaltrends.com/camcorder-reviews/sony-hdr-cx130-review your camera can record in 1080 60 progressive. "Also this camcorder captures 1080/60p video. In order to engage it, you have to adjust the frame rate in the menu system—it’s not under HD/SD quality which you would think would be the logical spot." So I would guess that the footage you have is in fact progressive. However, I have had a look at how you can change the frame rate of your project in Ulead on Google but have had no luck. Someone with some knowledge wanna step in? Edited June 22, 2013 by streetrials24
