Sidehop tips

You dont necessarily need massive preload to go higher. Lazenby goes a fair height with minimal preload.

i think it depends if you have fast or slow muscles, i seem to go really slow down no matter what but people who preload a tiny bit usually go rapid as f**k

Use the rear tyre. I'm crap at sidehops, my best is probably just shy of 44" but I can't even get up 40" if my rear tyre has no bounce. It's all about timing, you need to feel the tyre compress and start jumping before it begins to rebound. I feel that the best way to compress the tyre is to do a quick preload while keeping your muscles relaxed followed immediately by an explosive jump.

As for the amount of preload - use as much as you feel is right. Like said above, it all depends on your strength and muscles. What for some might be enough, for you could be too much and you'll be using much of your strength to straighten your legs rather than jump upwards.

I am not the highest hopper in the world more height in hoping on to the undergaurd then back wheel up in my view but does scratch and bent back chain stay though but I can get up 4ft walls this way. Lead with the front wheel and aim the pedal to the ledge and I looks better in my mind

People who can go fairly height with out much preload are lucky with genetics.

Pair up that with good technique and the end result will be better.

Of course there are always some freaks out there.

Practice does not make perfect, only perfect practice does. If your using a bad technique and practicing that over and over it's going to make it difficult to loose those 'bad habits'

Using a flat tyre is a good example, you don't eat to relie on the tyre to get you up there, will only get you so high and if rimming out you are losing force generated
