trialsiain
am i doing it wrong by going to front wheel first
Blake
No not at all, rule I was told by Burkett is that when trying the highest you can possibly go you tweak it to front wheel, but when youre trying to make it look cool and comfortable you pop it up straight to two wheels. If youre looking to get higher try pre loading more, and jumping up quicker and harder. In the world's of cls "kick hard reach high". Also, practice makes perfect x
williams
More tips is appreciated. I'm probably the worst "sidehopper" on here haha.

SamKidney
What George said really. I LOVE sidehops, as you may have figured, and I almost always do them to two. Try tweaking your front wheel into the direction of the sidehop. Seems to help initiate the tuck which is a key part of really getting the max out of your move. Blake
A friend of mine isn't to great at sidehops, he always tries them no matter what height but often slips down to chainstay. This of course aggravates him more and more and he gets irritated when he can't do it. It's fairly clear that he only tries them so often because it's a move I do a lot when out riding, and I try and get him to do the same because I think he enjoys them like I do. In reality he doesn't really enjoy them and only does them because I say he should, which is wrong of me as he doesn't like doing them. I'm obsessed with sidehops (sad I know) and that's why I do them so often and have spent so long getting the technique right, and spending ages looking at other styles of doing them. But not everybody is the same. The point is don't listen to what anyone else says, do what makes you happy with your riding.
BradJohnson
Stand taller on the take off, and spring really quickly whilst getting a massive tuck on! also lean really far over if need be,
p_ruskin
I used to do it to front wheel but i found it slowed my progress, since i have learnt to go to two, side hops improve at a much faster rate (although i cant do them to front wheel anymore), they feel and look a lot cleaner to both as well so i'd recommend that! i learnt by taking my front brake off so i didnt have to rely on it https://vimeo.com/50424281 This is from last summer Edited June 14, 2013 by onza limey20
cardenas_26trials
When jumping vertically, lean more backwards and trie to be as perpendicular to the floor as possible (as you can see you are sticking your head to the front. try not to do that). Then for the tuck, use more your legs than your arms. It must be a synchronized work. I personally like to stand diagonally and a bit further to the obstacle, then you have more room to tuck. myself;

cardenas_26trials
You need to preload more I think that depends on the effort of the sidehop, you won't preload the same in a low than a high wall
dave33
I think that depends on the effort of the sidehop, you won't preload the same in a low than a high wall Well I'm just guessing that's one of your bigger side hops? So in that case you need to preload more

Jake. Keep trying sidehops slightly too big for you and you should start to get them bit by bit.
ogre
its just the way that you slip out from an under done one freaks me the f**k out, the bail doesn't feel controllable, maybe this is a lack of practice? i do avoid them...

I often miss the front end on them, I just put my foot out to the side as soon as I see/feel it miss, I've never really hurt myself that bad from them. Pretty sure you're the same as me in that you land with your front pedal low and your back high ; when you fail a side hop your pedal can't catch you unlike most other people. Scares the shit out of me too haha
dezmtber
How many bannana skins were on the top of that ledge Sam I don't think I have ever seen such a massive fail on a sidehop ever
SamKidney
You dont necessarily need massive preload to go higher. Lazenby goes a fair height with minimal preload.
