Breaks on Element 24 (forks elemend disc)

I tired a bit of brakeless and decided to ride with brakes for some time, but don't know what to choose.

I like quality of hope brakes, but people says that they're not so good. And really don't know what to set on rear vees or magura (05 or 11)?

I want:

1) reliability

2) modulation at least on front (stoppes/g-turns/etc.)

3) good bite and hold and also good "feeling" of brakes

And also I hate grinding rims so much..

Should point out that the speed dial and setting the caliper alignment correctly really is the difference between an alright brake and a bloody good one.

Also the SD7 has the range to make the brake really modulatey and yet a couple of clicks softer makes it really on/off, almost v-brake like power.

At the moment my brake is a 4 year old caliper, tektro wavey rotor, the a2z pads off tarty and sd7 lever with a well GT85'd wilko cable with plastic ferrules.

Yet despite this cheap, slightly thrown together set-up, it is more than powerful enough for my needs, I mean it really stops, when I can get me weight far enough back so I don't re-arrange me teeth... I could make it better upgrading all this stuff (and I intend too, just for a freshen up) but there is simply no need.

No doubt the saint would be better, but against BB7 buying a £200+ M810 seems daft to me.

But that is for the OP to decide.

So they've depreciated like a bag of led feathers then?

Also if m810's are as good as people raving about them say, why is there a good second hand market? These people must have reasons for selling up so peeps can buy them?

Sorry but my precursor to shi*mano products means i'm still not convinced. I'd have to have half an hour using one first.

EDIT: In fact I already have. they were 710's and IMO nothing special. I thought 4 pots on MTB's (It was on a then friends bling commencial meta 5.5) were supposed to rip up the ground behind it?

I don't think i'd ever go back to hopes now. Totally over rated imo.

This!

I don't actually think that hope are as good as everyone on here say they are. I have tried a lot of different hopes but I never like them. Especially not the new Trialzone or whatever they're called.

Saint is the only brake I've been 100% happy with.

I would say, get a saint on the front with a 160-180mm rotor, and a shimano xtr v-brake for the rear. With the pads of your choise.

I completely agree dan. The only good hope I've ever felt is on Jed's GU. Wouldn't touch em, only had bad experiences with them. Unless they are brand new, its a bit too much hassle for my liking if they f**k up

That's because people know its a buyers market, and people who want a fast buck will always make it selling a set of m810's. loads of people keep hassling me to sell mine.

Its like anything else, the pads and rotor have to be compatible to a certain degree, and bedded in properly.

Saint m810's with the proper shimano rotors and a good set of pads are the best brake out there. Most solid lever, most amount of power I've ever felt on a brake. Everyone who's ever tried my mod with dual saints has said the same thing, they want a set. The only brake I've had that got anywhere near these was a properly. Bedded in echo tr disk brake, using echo pads and rotor. Had no trouble with it at all. I got my saints for £100 with 180 ice tech rotors and the right adaptors. For that money it was daft not to.

Saints are cheap because dh boys have loads of cash and buy new parts pretty regular. There all raving about the new saints so yeah the old ones are all over pinkbike and ebay.

My mate has a new zee brake on his bike. He pefers his hope trialzone to that. The older shimano dh brakes were much better

The new shimano brakes are good for dh bikes as they now use ceramic pistons and the pads with heat sinks.

Less heat going the the oil
