Dav1d
Just wondering what 24" rims and hubs people are running as the inspired own wheel set it a tad weak and flexy. Was looking at Hope pro trials hubs and an Atom lab rim (which are like gold dust trying to find any). Any advice and suggestions would be good to receive

dezmtber
Upgrade bikes are where we get atomlab from you can check stock on there. And if any local shop stocks there other brands they can get the atomlabs for you hope this helps The pimp rims are quite heavy though compared to inspired rims
CalopS
I've been happy with my DMR backline rims.
Dav1d
Dezmtber they only seem to sell 26" have you bought 24" from them before? DrStix which inspired rims just I have some atm (non pro versions) and they aren't brilliant

I have this inspired pro rim on a pro 2EVOT with these Double Butted vocal BMX stainless spokes and it has none of the flex you describe. (the exact opposite) I've found the spokes to be the key here. I rebuilt the same rim and hub with these and the difference over the halo Plain Guage was silly amounts of better. They are just a nicer product for about the same price as halo PG but made from a better material; the black is much, much nicer (halos look/feel like bad spray paint after 'bout a month) and the butting is tapered not stepped like sapim either. I bought them from Custom riders, in 232mm length using (separate) 16mm long araya spoke nipples. Trust me, look into it. 20quid on spokes over a new wheel seems worth it to me. Dav1d
Cheers for the feedback guys, I just have the standard 24" rim that comes with the bike not the pro-version. Tempted on the hope hub as always loved the sound they make and feel and will give the new spokes a go as should stiffen it up. Tyres... Maxis Holy Rollers as good as cracked up to be? CC12345678910
From your avatar you have this bike right? In which case you do have the pro rim that i linked/own and your flex is down to the PG disease i had before I swapped them out. and I haven't found a better rear tyre than a holy. As for the front i am running a schwalbe table top for some lard saving at 600ish gram (holy is like 780g according to tarts) The grip is a bit sketchy til it wears in but after that its as good as the holy ont back. Something about schwalbe tyres, Ar mate's big betty was like that too. I'm just gonna sand my next one and rough off what ever is on the top of the rubber that's greasy as ice. EDIT: found the ridden and rated thread I did before buying the table top if your interested: http://www.trials-forum.co.uk/topic/178133-schwalbe-table-top-tyre/ Run mine at around the 40-45PSI range with a 150ish gram tube and I got to say it's done all I have asked of it, even my awful attempts of wallrides. Could be a contender? Edited June 10, 2013 by CC12345678910
persistant_itch
Hope pro 2 with atomlab pimplites on my fourplay, no complaints yet, think they're cheaper than the inspired drilled team rims too
CC12345678910
Pimplites are known for being stiff certainly. But a bit narrow at like 28mm or something? or is that not as bad as I think it would be? Inspired teams are 35mm wide for reference. same as my pro, just the teams are drilled and CNC'd more. persistant_itch
Well I've had no issues with the Tyre folding over yet if that's what you mean, but yeah they are narrow enough

It was around the time that Atomlab pretty much stopped making a lot of 24" rims and almost everywhere was sold out or awaiting new stock. dezmtber
Halo still make loads of 24" rims. But a lit are disc only
CC12345678910
Was gonna suggest a combat like my front one to be honest. can't be knocked for £25. 32h or 36h and 610g but disc only though which is a pain. Had to swap my back one out when I wanted rim brake again.
dezmtber
Combats have rim brake surface though. The sas and t2 don't. If I were using halo I would cut holes in a combat for the rear and cut holes in an old tornado for the front
CC12345678910
I know that fella, but it wasn't really usable, not deep enough. Inspired rim has nearly double the depth brake surface. much better for brake set-up. Edited June 12, 2013 by CC12345678910

Weird - I specifically went for plain gauge spokes because they built up into a stiffer feeling wheel, having had double butted spokes in the past. Same deal for Stan on his 26" bike.
isitafox
What you need is a pair of pro 2's on 24" Spank Spikes
dezmtber
Hmmm stiffer wheels from the stretchy double butted spokes. Stronger or stiffer ? Stronger maybe. I have heard a lot of wheel builders say double butted is stronger, something about the elasticity of the spoke reducing broken bends and nipples. But double butted will make a more fexible wheel not stiffer.
CC12345678910
This is gonna be really hard to explain but i'll have go, Beforehand if I rode down the road and kicked the back end out, (by lifting the back wheel 2 inch and swinging me hips) say like you would to stop/slow down when riding double rim brake or brakeless; (similar to harsh hit off a 180ish spin ) the rim would flex and hit the pad, making that noise like when the tpa is turned up too much and you find that annoying mini buckle that is tiny, but stops the wheel, particularly annoying when trying to be smooth on 180-fakies etc. However with DB, it does not happen anymore. If I went out now and did this little test, the rim is rock solid. the hub and rim are the same, using the same brake and position on the slaves, as I didn't move the brake to take the wheel out and haven't moved it since. So in my mind, either I built the wheel better this time round, or the spokes are the difference, yes? But I didn't/ don't come on here for an argument,(I've probably dredged this up as it is, came in here 'cos someone quoted me) and if you believe, or have found, different to me then I will listen but this i what i believe, and will be changing out the front set as soon as I can. AdamR28
I built the wheel better this time round This - also if the hub was new on the first build, the spokes will have loosened off a fair bit through riding. With the hub bedded in, this wouldn't happen on the 2nd build. Out of interest, what brands were the spokes?
