clerictgm
I am puzzled by this problem because I want to ride more often, and it seems that I don't get enough rest or something. For example: 1st day(after ~2 days of rest) - some great big crazy riding for ~3+ hours, balance and tech is great, fall-offs is rare, heights is great and also I have no fear. Then if I go for a ride the next day: balance is unstable, tech is not so good (some silly mistakes), fall-offs not so rare, and I'm afraid to do some big stuff. So, what can I do with it? And why in some day you have great balance and everything, when the other day your riding may be awful?
UK_SPAWN
Im same... but for me i'v figured out its just because I haven't done anything remotely physical in about 8 years lol and I smoke and am very skinny... fist day I rode I was fine no problems atall and I was hitting what I call "the confidence wall" where I was unsure of doing certain things after such a long break. Then the next day I was a little achy but was still able to improve on the previous day in terms of skill. When I got home from the ride I noticed that I was supremely hungry and I just ate for the rest if the night, just about... the next day I was still achy and couldnt do as much as the second day ( frustrating ) and was very hungry again throughout most of the day. After riding steady and eating and a good sleep I felt like my shoulders were getting bigger and were not hurting as much and I did bigger stuff than all the other days... then after a while I started to ach again.. but in different places, like my wrists and hands.... again I feel hungry... So to me I just need to strengthen up the related parts of my body and eat more to allow it too. Sorry for yhe long boring post...
JD™
My recovery is to have a fag and a beer. For best results, both at the same time.

Danny00135
You think this is a psychological thing? Have you ever ridden something you felt was huge gone back to it the next day and it feels so small? After riding so well it's easy to think you're better than you are, meaning when you do ride to your real ability you feel like you're capable of more, which in turn does affect your confidence which kills your balance + confidence. There are two sides of the brain, the remembering side and the doing side, it is easy to let the remembering side take over, for example, have you ever driven home then not been able to remember how you got there? That's because you're no longer thinking how to get home, and it's your remembering side which takes over. It's the same with this, Having a few days rest you're more likely to actually think what you're doing, instead of remembering and doing the wrong thing and not knowing why.
FamilyBiker
its even simpler,i think.(ironic lol) we all know the "flow"(as psychological term) feeling you have when riding, everything seems to happen automaticly and all other things are pushed to the background of your thinking.thats because your brain has to cut parts off the oxygene supply to supply your muscles and the rest of the brain,to hold up the vigilance you need to "survive"when riding.so when reacting is needed, thinking isnt that important, will be cancelled lol that "burnout day after a serious riding day": thats because the brain throws out loads of ephedrine, adrenaline and dopamine due to the thrill you get when hopping, dropping etc... once the neurotransmitters are shot out by your synapsis,it takes up a process of reloading, the "reuptake",which can last a few days, depending on how much thrill you had and how much neurotransmitters were ready when you started to release them. hence your abilities vary from your brains metabolism processes simple, huh?

bing
My recovery is to have a fag and a beer. For best results, both at the same time. Yes JD. Same here, except no fags. I'm at the age now where beer and cycling are intrinsically linked. A watery hop based beverage is the drink of choice after a big ride, its like silk going down my throat

UK_SPAWN
Just to add to my previous post... Today my shoulder feels better and my wrists are my weakness... I will give it a few days and then it should be fine, and maybe I'll see a new ach or pain...or create one whilst riding lol Cheers.
clerictgm
The main problem is my arms. They're getting tired too fast and recovering too slow. What can I do? Just ride more?

UK_SPAWN
Hold a tin of beans/food and with your arms extended out to the side whilst standing. Make small circles not too slowly after a while rotate the other way. Theb strech your arms by laying them flat against a wall (elbow & wrist) and rotating your body as to 'lever' your arm.. change position (hands upward with elbows and wrists on the wall) and 'lever' your torso and such down.. try many positions and do each arm equaly. Just basically repeatedly exhert. Then stretch almost straight away (wiggle your arms wrists whilst limp is nice) Repeat as much as you can. Jake.
My wrist usually really hurts after a lengthy ride, ever since I had a bad fall back in January. Doctors said it was just a bad bruise. What do I do? Like it'd affect me when driving home cause it hurts to turn the steering wheel or change gear...
FamilyBiker
get it checked again for fibrocartilage damage, its the most common injury when it comes to wrists, does rotating your hand hurt?
dave33
dont ever ride for 3 hours plus, thats just to long, have a decent meal after and get more sleep
Jake.
It's fine when I haven't been riding, like now. But after a ride any pressure on it is usually painful. Dave that'll be a problem at radfest, will probably ride 2 hours then 1 hour break etc.
