JD™
Hi all. I mentioned in the happy thread earlier that I'd had a bit of a touch with a Google update. I also try to do a video every Friday on something to do with internet marketing, so tomorrows subject was pretty simple. I'm going to make a concerted effort to get this all over the place tomorrow so it would be really handy for it to get some views in advance to give it some gravitas to work from. If you fancy sitting through about 2 and a half minutes of me warbling on then please just click the link: I'm aware this is somewhere on the edge of spammy, but I'd really appreciate it and any critique you might have. Thanks!
TrialsIsHard
"I won't tell you how we did" - Title of video: How Our Competitors Helped Us To Number 1 On Google. That was a nice touch I always seem to find myself watching these videos, pretending I know what you're on about really. Congrats on being number one in the rankings too! JD™
Yea it's a bit of a numpty thing but it's a title that should generate clicks tomorrow. Just calling it 'my rant about how good I am' wont work as well! Cheers for watching regularly
TrialsIsHard
Ahh yeah, that didn't cross my mind! Which is pretty embarrassing considering the number of these videos I've watched This is why you're running Fifty6 and I'm sitting on the other side of youtube. AndrewEH1
Overall good video! Some suggestions: Don't be afraid to make the video out of lots of cuts rather than one long cut. Saves any umming. A little intro/outro music would add to it. Also, if you are going to be at the top of the search, time for a new photo?
Luke Rainbird
New intro graphic is smart, nice one

arw_86
New intro graphic is smart, nice one agreed. Also, have your arms been on holiday? Broooooooooooown
JD™
Cheers all! Andrew, I've always preferred the one take stuff as I think it's more natural. I'm definitely getting a bit more comfortable with doing them as time goes on, and ultimately I want to be doing speaking slots so this is good practise in that regard. I will put some music to the graphic, it was done by a friend and only sent through this morning so I just stuck it in there Picture has been changed, just takes a while to re cache in the results pages Mailchimps is where it's at Mark. And/or my new batch of video Ts haven't come through so I just had to go with whatever was sat in the office! Arms are a result of the Spanish GP, I'm sure if you watch in HD you'll see how badly they're peeling......
1a2bcio8
Pretty impressive in the main but I have a few critiques: I think the intro bit would be more awesome if it ended with the logo not taking over the entire screen. It felt a bit in my face to be honest; slightly overwhelming. I agree that getting rid of the pauses and stutters would make the experience more amiable. I think this is the most important point. It looks as though you were looking over my head or looking past me. Is the camera quite close and you're reading something above it? Perhaps putting the camera further back with text above it would help. This is a very picky critique but the light reflecting on your logo whilst your talking stood out a bit for me. Can you lower or spread the light somehow? Positive though were: You seemed confident and seemed like you knew what you were talking about. The overall finish definitely says professional save for the above critiques. Impressive! Edited May 23, 2013 by Ben Rowlands

Watched a few of your other videos and glad you avoided saying 'Good morning' Whilst I don't find doing presentations hard I hate doing stuff in front of a camera, so well done for getting these videos made! Isn't Google just taking the picture from your Google+ account? Also, had another thought...Have you thought about having a standardish opening line to every video, for instance "Hey, I'm Jason from fifty6..." or something? Mark W
Mailchimps is where it's at Mark. And/or my new batch of video Ts haven't come through so I just had to go with whatever was sat in the office! Word. We use it for our newsletters/mailshots and it's pretty cool. I still haven't quite gotten over the 'Oh shit, I hope I haven't done this wrong...' feeling just before hitting send on Newsletters yet The inability to edit stuff once it's gone out there ramps up that tension. Just a friend in the animation business playing with a new plug-in so I'll see what I can manage to ask for without seeming like I'm taking the mick The stutters and pauses are something I'm just going to have to work on long term, I can't stand the look of laziness and falseness that comes across with multiple cuts in a video which is all about being confident in your approach - if I can't say it in one take how am I supposed to be conveying that people should be confident in what I have to say? Strange about the point of view thing, I have no text anywhere around the camera and there's a super bright soft box right above the camera too so looking into the lens is my only option. I'll have to fiddle with placement next time too. That light on the logo is the bane of my life - essentially the light rigs I've got are awful and no amount of raising, lowering or bouncing the light off the ceiling or other walls seems to help with that. New lights soon! Cheers for the specific input, it's massively appreciated! Word. We use it for our newsletters/mailshots and it's pretty cool. I still haven't quite gotten over the 'Oh shit, I hope I haven't done this wrong...' feeling just before hitting send on Newsletters yet The inability to edit stuff once it's gone out there ramps up that tension. Yea, I'm about to do one right now for this vid so I'm just about ready for that feeling again! It's worse when doing them for other people though for me personally. I don't think that feeling will ever go away - sorry to be the bearer of bad news. Although obviously it won't be a problem for you forever. WHERE ARE YOUR GLASSES. THIS ISN'T YOU. I wish I could wear them If you have a gander at older videos from earlier in the year you'll see why I don't. Yeah, you do seem to be improving! I've always liked saying good morning as a way of showing people who watch it after release that it was current at some point, but yea it's got a bit cringy. Not sure what I'm going to do opening line wise, I need to watch some fresh videos from some 'idols' in the industry to get some inspiration. You're totally right on the G+ thing, I changed it (or at least I tried) the other day and quite clearly it went wrong. Thanks for making me realise that sooner than I would've!
