cardenas_26trials
Hello people, Well I've been riding trials for about 4-5 years now and I'm currently on a dual disc mod. Thing is I'm not very tall, I'm 165cm (5feet5inches). Then my bike's wheelbase is about 1025mm (Zoo! lynx). What do you people think should be my ideal WB? Koxx and other comp mods are lower than 1000mm and also run shorter chainstays (I hate longs haha). I was thinking about 985 or something like that. This is because I want to buy a custom marino frame which I feel perfect! Thanks Esteban.
dezmtber
I am the same height. I got on really well with the rickman Austin. And my new ozonys v3 24" feels spot on too.
Mark W
Wheelbase doesn't really have much to do with how a bike will feel, and if you're thinking of getting a custom frame starting off with deciding the wheelbase is a bad idea. The head angle, BB rise and 'reach' of the frame will make a bike feel a certain way, and it's best to work that out and then see where your wheelbase will end up rather than trying to work the other way.

This. I'm so much happier with my latest marino because I concentrated on HA, BB rise, reach and CS length and then just let the wheelbase be what it'll be. Hopped on the bike for the first time in a few weeks last night and just realised how well it fits with what I want to do, whereas if I'd concentrated on WB I'd probably have ended up with something a lot longer in that regard which would have ruined the rest of it. I think it ended up working out around the 970 mark.

Head angle as I know is very standard (71-72). On BB rise I would pick something like +85-90 but I know nothing about reach. I've just read it's the distance from the centre of BB to the top of the head tube (or centre?). Koxx and Ozonys have 585 and 580, should I go for something like that or shorter? CS will defo be 350. Thanks Mark I am the same height. I got on really well with the rickman Austin. And my new ozonys v3 24" feels spot on too. I just want to stick on with mods, I feel them perfect (I've also tried some 24"s). Massive thanks for the replies so far!
