Ross McArthur
So last night I took off my drive side crank to inspect my free wheel and noticed my Echo BB inner race had crushed. Has anyone had this problem with their spanish BB set up?
AndrewEH1
Apart from being a hassle to install? Nope. I'm guessing you have a spacer on though? I think I have a spare Echo BB bearing lying about if you want it? Edited May 21, 2013 by AndrewEH1
Ross McArthur
What a hero! Ive actually just ordered some new-yins from Tarty but if you're not using them, talk to me!
AndrewEH1
Well I've only got one spare bearing (the other one was f**ked by me being a tool), but I can pop it in the post tonight if I can find it. Same address as before? Edited May 21, 2013 by AndrewEH1
Mark W
I've done it to a BMX BB before (just some budget bearings I got), and I think I've seen it happen to an Echo BB before. The Fly bearings are the 'full complement' style ones so should last longer in any case. The inner race is a touch thicker too:
Ross McArthur
The Echo bearing looks like a stronger set up. The load looks like it would be distributed a bit better, instead of onto the tip of each ball on the FlyBikes bearing? Feel free to educate me if im going wrong. UK_SPAWN
More = better load distribution... Would you lay on a bed of nails? Yes... Wouls you lay on 1 nail....? No Also looks like the echo ones are in a race/bearing holder... Which will break and mangle up like crappy wheel bearings in 100quid mountain bikes lol Edited May 21, 2013 by UK_SPAWN
Ross McArthur
Ah I see! I didnt realise it was a bearing holder.
FamilyBiker
the joke with those ball retainers is that if you´d put it away you could fit at least one ball more into the bearing, making it stronger... ...i think steel sheet is cheaper than balls. Mark W
the joke with those ball retainers is that if you´d put it away you could fit at least one ball more into the bearing, making it stronger... Or almost twice the amount of ball bearings as the left shows
FamilyBiker
trials riders need loads of balls! :wink2:
forteh
The bearing cage is required for proper bearing life at high speeds, the full compliment bearings won't last in a high speed application (which most bearings are used for) but will take higher loads. The full compliment bearings are far more costly to produce and generally aren't required in most applications where the bearing is actually correctly sized to suit the loads applied

trialsiain
yea i never understood which was better cause on the description one says that more bearings are better( so smaller) and the other says larger bearings are better Uses a larger bearing than traditional ISIS BBs, making it spin smoother for longer. bearings feature twice the amount of bearings compared to other cartridge bearings (see Additional Image for comparison with Echo bearing), giving improved longevity and smoothness. Mark W
Yeah, it says "a larger bearing than traditional ISIS BBs", e.g. a normal screw-in sort of BB. Spanish BBs, irrespective of brand, still feature larger ball bearings in them than a traditional ISIS BB. The bearings aren't smaller in the Fly BB, they just don't have the retainer in there so they can fill that space up with extra bearings. The bearing cage is required for proper bearing life at high speeds, the full compliment bearings won't last in a high speed application (which most bearings are used for) but will take higher loads. Which is good for trials...
forteh
Ah no denying that, meant to add that to the end of my post but forgot
dezmtber
Those full compliment bearings are often labeled as max or enduro bearings too
Mark W
Enduro is just a make, rather than a specific product/type of bearing.
